“Great hotel”
Reviewed 3 May 2011

Stopped on business having just come back off holiday in Spain at a dreadful four star hotel. This is just great. Fantastic rooms, very helpful staff and I ate in the restaurant and found it excellent. One small point of note a glass of wine is very expensive. Will definitely stop again

Thank you for your lovely review of our hotel, its great to receive such positive feedback! You may be interested to know that we have now adjusted our wine measures to a 175ml size, which means that a glass of wine is now a more affordable price. We are also in the process of reviewing our selection of wines to ensure that we offer popular and quality products to our guests.

I travelled to Derby to attend my cousins wedding with my husband, Mum and Auntie who are both over 80. Even before we arrived I was pleased with the service. I had made a mistake on my booking so called to explain - the problem was quickly solved. I explained our reason for travelling and who would be staying and was asked if we would prefer ground floor rooms and adjacent ones, which I thought very considerate. On arriving, Simon was on duty, he was very pleasant and answered a few questions we had with regards to proximity to Register office, Parking etc. Problems accessing one of the rooms were quickly sorted. On leaving the hotel in the evening, we were wished a pleasant meal ( we were meeting family over at the Harvester - less than 5 mins away and very good value for money) On our return, Claire was on duty - again lovely pleasant manner. I asked if we I could have some extra coffee and milk for our room and were provided with an ample supply. In the morning, we were greeted pleasantly. Breakfast was as decent choice of cereals, toast, croissants, pain au chocolate, yoghurts, fruit, sausages and scrambled egg (could have been more but I can't remember!) I asked Simon if he could order us a taxi to get to the wedding - "Of course, no problem" was the response. We have stayed at this Holiday Inn on previous occasions as it is very convenient for us to visit all of our relatives and whilst it has always been a good stay, this was made better by the pleasant nature of the staff - nothing seemed too much trouble. We have stayed in 4 star hotels and not received the service we did here. So thank you and we will be back!

Stayed over after visiting Pride park stadium home of Derby county fc ,we are away fans so wanted some where near to ground with parking, this Holiday inn express was offering a room for less than £50 which could sleep 4 adults and with FREE breakfast ,the hotel on whole was very clean, staff helpful and polite, they don't have a resturant but it's not needed as across the road there's a Harvester pub/resturant which is good place to eat there is a resturant/bar next to the harvester called old orelenes but can't say how good as we didnt go in.
to sum up this hotel.....value for money, clean and great location for the football stadium(10 mins walk max!)

Stayed here with my son the night before he had an interview at Derbyshire Uni. Welcoming and helpful front desk staff, very clean room and breakfast was perfectly adequate for a budget hotel. They also offer a choice of soft and firm pillows which I feel is a great added extra for the cost.

What you see is what you get with Holiday Inn and as far as amenities go this particular Holiday Inn provides the classic Holiday Inn no frills hotel facilities which are fine for a night or two. What let this particular Holiday Inn down was the overall attitude of a number of staff which came across as a "I don't want to be here, don't bother me attitude. We noted this with our check in when our access key for the room didn't work and then again from the duty manager when I complained about the non availability of internet, after paying a fee for the service in the room. There was a reluctance to apply the Holiday Inn promise of no fee for a particular service (Internet) if not satisfied. We didn't see a smile from the staff the whole time we were there. The duty manager needs a lesson or two in providing adequate supervision and direction to staff. When a diner from another party asked for some more eggs to be brought out as the breakfast supplies had run down there was a look of frustration by the staff member. We noted that all the staff seemed young including the duty manager and to us the whole place seemed to be calling out for some "adult supervision", where hopefully staff might be taught they are working in the hospitality industry. It costs nothing to smile and provide some friendly service. The hotel amenities were fine and on par with Holiday Inn standards. I agree with other reviewers re the breakfast, but again its failings are to a large degree brought about by a general lack of commitment to providing good customer service. This is a hotel which to us was let down by poor service.

Thank you for your review,I am most disappointed to hear that our customer service standards let us down during your recent stay . We do strive to provide high levels of customer service but it appears that on this occasion we did not meet your expections. I can assure you that all staff are fully trained to anticipate and exceed guest expectations and can only assume that your experience was a one-off. The Wifi service that is offered in the hotel is complimentary to all guests in our public areas and as with any service the speed can fluctuate according to demand.
Your feed back is greatly appreciated and has been discussed with both staff members and our service providers.
I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.
Kind Regards
Angela Nicholls.

Stayed here whilst back in my home town on vacation. Its situated on Pride Park not far from Derby County FC. There are two pubs nearby, a harvester which was busy for a midweek night so I would definately book a table if you know you are going to eat there. There is a nice open fire in there and good quality food at a reasonable price.
There is free parking outside and a barrier with a code for exit. The reception were helpful. No free drink for Platinum priority club members as in some other hotels. There was a small area for ice and snacks. These were pricey. There is a local Sainsburys a few mins drive away on the local industrial area.
The room was normal for a holiday inn express. A small clothes hanging area and a bathroom with small toilet and shower only. It was quiet.
Breakfast was ok especially as its free. It included sausages and scrambled eggs and fruit, toast, rolls and cereals. It was quiet considering it was 8am when we went for breakfast.
There is a small pay per hour internet £3 for the hour next to the main door. Would I stay here again. Yes if it was for a family room but I would probably book the new Hol inn in Derby centre if not needing a family room.
