Good variety of buildings and gardens to explore, tunnels, outbuildings etc and the main house is in a very interesting but unrestored condition. Very much worth a visit.

The National Trust had a positive brainwave when they decided to conserve rather than restore Calke. Have money build house. Lose money and house decays . Love the slightly dotty Harpur Crewes, especially the one who had a tunnel made so as to not see his employees bringing food from the kitchen gardens to the scullery. And go Sir Vauncey!! Clutter that bedroom with whatever!

Definitely worth a visit, the house has been frozen in time from when it was given to the National Trust. Fascinating to see how the house was just closed down by the Harpur Crewe family and incredible work by the NT in keeping it at that state of decay, without allowing it to deteriorate further. As usual all the volunteers are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the house. Beautiful gardens an parkland as well. Will definitely return.

As National Trust members we visit a lot. My son loves it here with loads to explore and it’s always a great day out. We’ve been in Sun, Snow, Wind and Rain and it never fails to please.

We visited in our motorhome and there was ample parking on the grassed overspill car park. It was very hot and shade was not easy to find. We had a picnic on the tables provided but again no shade so we went back to our motorhome. There are lots of walks to do as well as the house and gardens. Lots of sheep around who had found all the shady trees to sleep under. A good day out with lots of variety of things to do
