We stayed over the Easter period. I must admit we were put off a couple of years ago when we first stayed by the negative reviews; but because we had left it late to book, this was the only site with spaces in this area. We have since stayed a couple of times. As others who have stayed here, we had a fall out with the owner/manager of the site. But we did breach an important rule by allowing friends of ours onto the site without signing in. Myself and the owner have since exchanged emails and have both apologised. When we arrived, we were specifically asked not to drive onto the grass, and so we didn't.
On a more positive note, we generally found the staff helpful and friendly, the shower/toilet facilities are clean and the showers are hot and powerful.
On site facilities for children of all ages are great and of course it is set in a lovely part of the country.
Prospective campers should try this caravan park for themselves, and so long as you follow the rules (unlike ourselves) you'll have no problems and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: We asked to park the caravan in an open space away from trees that have kept us in the shade before, and were able to without a problem.

I've stayed here before a couple of times a few years ago with family so it seemed like the perfect choice for a quick break at Easter - but NO. My goodness what' has happened?

The upper part of the site used to be a lovely wooded area with secluded spots nestled amongst the play areas. But now? It's an uninviting, soulless hard standing and clearing that resembles a working men's club car park. No landscaping, no character, no seclusion, just a barren and open black expanse of compacted gravel.

I'm afraid the one very helpful girl on reception did little to compensate for this and the otherwise blunt nature of the other staff at the site, nor did it compensate for cobwebs, dirty fag ended areas or broken play things.

I can fully understand the need for low maintenance, and increase of pitches to make this viable, but it can be done with landscaping and character - as it is at plenty of other sites. I can also understand why you need excavators, maintenance areas and diggers etc - but hide them away not park them up next to the kids play area !

To be honest £30 a night is a little over the odds, but I wouldn't mind if it was a lovely site. The showers and WC's ok, if a little tired, but this should be standard for the prices they charge. Games room looked tired and dated. We decided to have a couple of drinks but they didn't even have a bag of crisps in the bar/cafe.

Just outside the gates there is a boarded up pub with a fenced off car park and we might have well have stayed there the night as it could have been no worse.

Never again if it's the last place in Derbyshire...

Room Tip: Just outside the gates there is a boarded up pub with a fenced off car park and we might have well have stayed there the night as it could have been no worse.

We have just spent the Easter weekend camping. This is not the first time we have been and returned as we had a good time, enjoyed location and had excellent facilities. Unfortunately this has been ruined by the extremely rude and very aggressive owner who was uncontrollably screaming at us as we had parked on the grass whilst we were packing up. This was in front of teenagers and a 3 year old. The man needs to learn manners and how to treat his customer, very disgusting behaviour and will never return there again.

We have just departed a day early from this site for 2014 Easter bank holiday. The site it's self is lovely and extremely well maintained. The facilities are very child friendly. The washrooms etc are spotless id say the best vid ever used whilst camping. No the bad part which ruined our much needed family break. The owner and his daughters are so rude. At check in this was apparent but we thought bust weekend etc let's brush it off and get set up. Unfortunately it rained and as any camper knows this is awful. We decided to put all the items left outside that we're getting wet back in the car, things like chairs table toys bikes etc so reversed the car up to the tent for speed. Well this was a HUGE mistake? Why you ask? Because the owner doesn't not like it let you drive on the grass????? Now to those of us who ate normal isn't that part of the course whilst camping???? Not here! The owner pulled up in his van and ran across the field at us shouting and swearing for us to move the car immediately and to pack up and get off his site! He came in my face and said move it and get off now there is no parking on the grass. (There are NO signs stating this by the way) my 3 year old was crying and my 5 year old was clinging to my leg his daughters then joined in the shouting and bullying and wouldn't listen to any reason or hear our logic as to why we did it in the first place. We had to pack up the rain with our kids crying in the car whilst we were watched over by this horrible family! A member of staff ( young man blonde hair) came over to me at the end and apologised on the owners behalf and informed us that customer service was not their strong point so much so that he had been transferred from Cornwall to help them in this area ie customer service and that he was so sorry. One thing we noticed throughout not just when this horrendous ordeal happened was that ALL OF THE STAFF ARE PRETTIFIED OF THE OWNER

With four kids and the wife we decided to pitch a tent for few nights in the week running up to Easter. Its classed as peak season but it was very quiet while we were there as it was just before their really busy Easter weekend period. The rates were on par with other sites with the added bonus of no coins required for showers etc. the facilities block was very clean and there was plenty of staff 24/7 There's enough for the kids to do to kill time on the 3 or 4 play areas in between your trips out etc. I do wish we could have seen the benefit of the little boat lake and the very high zip wire but they only staff these when there is a demand in busy periods. Set a little too close to the road so you always have that background noise but a nice setting all the same.
