Went to Lidiard park and house on a windy wet day in November. Parkland far smaller than once was but extensive all the same with walks, lake and places for kids to play and eat.

Visited the house which is now property of local council who have embarked on a programme to restore it and make it a visitor attraction. Money is naturally a big issue and ways to secure income abound ranging from recently introduced car park fees, a conference centre attached to the House and all upstairs room used for meetings, so you only have part of the downstairs to visit.

There are about 7/8 downstairs rooms with pretty good restoration and audio facility to direct you through the history of the House and owners. Its interesting and with detail to hand you can see who is covered in the artwork which has been sought and brought back to the House.

There are far better historical houses to visit basically due to the limited rooms that are open, but with the extensive parkland it is a good place to visit.

We visited Lydiard House this Saturday though the weather wasn't promising.
A kind staff member informed us about the house and you can explore it at your own space.
Its long history and family history are interesting, paintings are beautiful.
Amazing conservation work thanks to Swindon Council.
Worth a visit and the park as well. We'll come back to explore it when the weather is better.
We had a lovely afternoon tea in the barn.

This is a great place to stop off just a 1 mile from the M4, iideal for picnic or snack from the cafe. Plenty of space for the dog to walk and interesting site. Recommended for families.

The house is now owned and run by the local council so it does not have a homely feel, however it is well presented. The story is told by signage that you can read or by audio. The park is impressive. We weren't tempted by anything on offer at the cafe. Don't miss the church it is a gem.
