“Breakfast in a pub!”
Reviewed 25 August 2011

Stay in Swindon regularly when visiting family. Since our last stay at the De Vere it as been “themed” under the Village brand, and seems to have gone downmarket as a result. The room décor reminded me of a 1980’s youth club – grey and black striped walls, red ceiling and doors, dodgy artwork. As a consequence you need the (rather dim) lights on to read a newspaper. The room was very warm and had no air conditioning, but it was quiet enough to sleep with the windows open. The bed was very comfortable, but the shower was a feeble trickle. Carpet could have done with a good vacuuming - a hair grip and lots of blonde hairs on the floor (not mine)! Had dinner on the first night in the on-site Italian restaurant, which was pleasant enough. Breakfast was served in the same location, and the adjoining themed pub – tea and toast on the bar amidst the pumps! Receptionist on departure could do with a customer service training refresher.

Team very friendly, rooms spacious and very new! Room service from Buca - great quality! Leisure facilities and pool looked very good. Slept like a baby - hotel looked full but still had 2 nights of perfect sleep.

Wow. Now this is a Hotel with a capital H.
I am currently living in hotels while my company relocate me. I have stayed at many on the outskirts of Swindon and wish I had found this one first.
This is large hotel meets boutique. If you have ever stayed in a Mal Maison, then you can expect similar decor, but with lots of room.
Reception staff, are warm and welcoming, as are the rest of the service team here.
The rooms are spacious and very well decorated. The one I had was all dark woods with two windows, wooden blinds, a dressing room, low lighting etc etc. Large TV without the annoying welcome notices and forced film previews.
Room service is via the in-house Italian restaurant. Food is great and delivered quickly. (20 mins from order) There is a Starbucks near the hotel reception (in the hotel) and great for either grabbing a coffee on your way out, or having a drink later on.
The location ensures zero boredom. There are a variety of eateries within the hotel, without it being to much of a multiplex hotel, and across the other side of a large car park is a bowling alley and cinema.
I am choosing to stay here until my new house is ready. It's worth paying that little bit more for thsi one over comparibles like The Marriot.

Upon arrival at the hotel the speed bump at the entrance is not the most curved ramp and may provide a bump to your car if it is sporty or a Mini (as it did for us, so drive slow!).
There are plenty of parking spaces in the car park (which is free) and there is plenty to do nearby with a sports centre (Link Centre), small shopping centre, Cinema (Cineworld) and ASDA.
We stayed for one night for a birthday party, we were met at reception by a friendly staff member who checked us in, and we were not given the Wi-Fi details to log on for free though. We were on the 2nd floor with Teal room doors (Red doors on the first floor).
Our room was as expected, normal size for a 4*, clean, tidy and usual facilities including: Iron, Ironing board, hair drier, coat hangers, tea/coffee facilities (no biscuits) as well as an LG flat screen TV with all the normal channels, no DVD/Blu-ray player. This is a newly refurbished room but simple things like a plug on both sides of the bed (to charge mobile) would have been useful and it is a shame this was not thought of. The windows vents were stuck on the left hand side open make sure when you get in the room to turn the Air Con on as the rooms can get very hot.
The bathroom doesn't look too refurbished (tiles with old wall plugs still in) but the ceiling was the teal of the doors (very trendy) and the mirrors are great too. There is Imperial Leather hand soap near the sink and shower gel in the bath/ shower. To improve my overall rating I think this Hotel would be further improved if there were some products (Like Moulton Brown) in the bathroom.
We had a great party at the hotel in the vision room 1/2 and I would recommend this as a venue for parties there were just under 70 people at our party and there was plenty of room.
We returned to our room (286) to find it was directly over the bar's patio and from midnight to past 1am we could hear chatter and music from the patio and bar as well as the TV in the next room playing music so our sleep was not the best and with a busy following day we have been very tired.
Breakfast setting is more evening meal than morning breakfast and if you want a full English at the weekend be prepared to queue or get there early.
An OK hotel, 4* but with the usual 4* finishing touches missing.

I felt the need to review this hotel after a wonderful weekend! Only came home yesterday.

I went as part of a hen weekend, 8 of us staying in total. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were gorgeous, spotless and with quality modern furnishings. The entire hotel has had a makeover, stunning fabrics, velvet sofa's, wonderful lobby... even a starbucks as you enter!

We were even given a glass of pimms as we walked to our room! Our package cost £59.00 pp for one nights bed and breakfast, including a 25 min treatment in the fantastic Healthworks spa, a 3 course meal in the Italian restaurant, a chilled bottle of sparkling wine in each room, and a glass of wine with the meal. Of course, we had full use of the spa- pool, steam room, sauna, gym and classes from 10:30 on the day of arrival to 6 pm the following day... all this for £59.00 was incredible.

The treatment rooms were gorgeous and the staff were wonderful. My friends and I had a massage, some pedicures, facials etc... our one treatment was included in the price.

The pool was lovely and calming, and we enjoyed the jacuzzi and steam rooms. There are even Tv's in the changing rooms!

I think the highlight of our trip was the fantastic meal in the new Italian restaurant. Having read a previous review calling the decor ' outrageous' I felt compelled to put this right!! It has a strong Italian theme, with quirky touches..but it is fun! It is rather like a theatre set in places but it all adds to a beautiful ambiance. Our table had a fantastic leather throne for the bride and was beneath a gorgeous chandelier, it was also in its own little room almost and felt almost like a private party.

The waiter could not do enough for us, was friendly and efficient and the food was beautiful. The set menu, included in our price had plenty of options and the food quality was second to none...and the puddings are enormous!

All in all, this hotel absolutely made our weekend and each one of us cannot wait to return in January for my birthday! Please give this place a try, for the price you pay it is fantastic!

A group of very happy ladies..ages 25-40 x

Hotel generally okay. Rooms and corridors too hot. Restaurant decor outrageous. Restaurant staff rude and untrained. They sweep the rubbish from the tables on the floor and relay the tables. They get the billing wrong and aren't flexible with menu choices.
