(watch your head cos it hurts). hotel is on avery small ... suppose youd say overlooking what ive said is near but we booked to go to longleat safari park(45-1 hr away). breakfasts excellent pool great and staff very good. nothing to complain .free safe and a complimentry bar in room. we were lucky??? also went to burton on the water 45mins away. lovely village. says it the venice of the costwols. well not quite that but a lovely village . has model village of their village which i thought was pants. a maze which confused our leader. son of 11. and a bird place with penguins etc which we didnt go. cos 11year old was sick of me taking mick how long it took him to getr out of maze.also a railway museum.lots og cafes for pensioners and a few excellent pubs. a lovely looking village.

We have Just spent a night in the De Vere hotel in Swindon and having stayed in De Vere hotels before we were unpleasantly surprised with the poor quality of both the bar area furniture and the room workmanship.
The chairs in the bars looked as if they had just been acquired from a car boot sale with large tears in most of them and once seated in them the comfort matched the shabby appearance.
The quality of the workmanship in the bathroom lends itself to an amature diy enthusiast and they must have used at least three tubes of silicone sealant to cover up the gaps around the bath.
We also had a meal in the restaurant and noticed double standards. When guests ordered an extortionately priced bottle of wine with their meal the service, especially the presentation, seemed to go up a notch or two. Even at a visit to the local greasy spoon, when presented with your meal you would normally get asked if you would like anything to accompany it, not at the De Vere it appears.
For a high profile chain hotel group one would also have expected some degree of security staff on site to give guests a feeling of ease but alas none to be seen especially to quieten noisy revellers running amok at unearthly hours of the morning.
On the plus side the beds were comfortable in case you think my comments were totally negative

Was in Swindon for the weekend visiting friends and the hotel was the most convenient (and at a special offer of £69 per night including breakfast or brunch, one of the most reasonable).

Facilities at the hotel are excellent. Decided to take brunch late on Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised at the quantity of food that was provided.

Room was spacious and comfortable (no problems with lack or air con in February luckily).

The leisure facilities in the hotel are excellent and enjoyed a good swim on Sunday morning.

Not bad overall but try to be away from the side of the nightclub Jacks as I didn't get much sleep on one night as they were open late on one occasion

Food is OK, Limited menu but still a good place to eat.

Stayed three times in the past two years and I'd stay again.

I found this hotel to be better than average for a mid-week business stop over.

The good points:

Good gym, helpful gym staff, nice swimming pool.
Restaurant staff were VERY good - in fact it was remarkable to experience such good staff in a hotel restaurant as usually they are poorly motivated and miserable - these were bright, cheerful and helpful.
Food in restaurant was better than average.
Check in was quick and efficient.

The bad points:

The bedroom was very outdated. It was clean and functional but in need of a total refurbishment, in my opinion.
The hotel decor in general is all looking a bit tired, with holes in corridoor carpets etc
It is in a leisure estate on the outskirts of Swindon surrounded by residential homes - walk into the town centre is about 2-3 miles.

Overall, I would go back.

It was reasonable, but nothing special. The staff were actually pretty friendly and the food in the Avon restaurant good for dinner and breakfast, although the scrambled eggs were made from powder rather than eggs which I never appreciate.
The hotel is generally in fine condition, although there are few scratches and dents which could do with fixing. Air conditioning would definitely help, since the room we had was very hot and airless which made for an uncomfortable night. The hotel is 100m from the West Swindon Centre, which although has a big Asda is looking pretty run down now (I can remember when it opened!) and there are plans to regenerate it, which would be great.
Checkout involved a bit of negotiation, with the DBB rate apparently not including even the basic Dinner menu without paying a £1.50 a head supplement. And the hotel wouldn't take a booking by phone, preferring to send my call to a closed call centre. It took persistence to get a booking. All very Swindon!

Lets face facts, even though Wiltshire has some lovely countryside and the hotel looks great in the brochure, it is in fact located in a retail park carpark! Its neighbours are an ASDA, a nasty couple of bars that play music late at night and a pizza hut.

While the location is good for kids and getting out to explore the area, it is not a venue for a romantic weekend away or a quiet break.

The rooms are fine, spacious and well stocked with toiletries, biscuits, ironing board, safe etc. The public areas, especially the lifts are very tired with cracked glass covered by brown sticky tape.

Staff are helpful and breakfast is good though avoid breakfast in the room before 8.00. I received very soggy pastries and limp toast with no coissants as seemingly in Swindon there are part of a cooked breakfast not a continental one!

Would use it again for business but there is nothing charming or romantic about this hotel, its a motel with a swimming pool but at least the cinema acroos the carpark has more recent films than the in room offerings.
