“Dreadful - avoid at all costs”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

This is a truly dreadful hotel, the staff don't know what they are doing and have clearly not been trained in customer service. We went to the leisure club where the floors were filthy, slippery and extremely wet. There was no toilet roll in the cubicals and when we went in the family changing area there was no toilet so I had to take my child into the normal changing rooms anyway! Then we went to the restaurant where the disaster continued, we sat down and ordered, when a member of staff came up and told us we had to move as the table was reserved (there was no reserved sign on it and they had already allowed us to order food to the table). They sat us on an uncomfortable table with two smaller tables pushed together right by the bar as there were no decent tables left. Our main courses arrived ok, we waited a full 25 minutes for our plates to be collected by which time I lost my patience and cleared them away myself!!! No member of staff offered to help or said thank you. I asked if desserts were going to be much longer as we'd ordered these at the beginning and like I said it had been at least 25 minutes since eating our mains. She said they would bring them right out. Another 15 minutes past and I was fuming, I went to the bar and asked how much longer it would be. The disorganised chaos presented itself - they had no food order to our table, probably because we had been shoved off our table in the first place! They then had to ask what it was we were waiting on & it was still another 10 minutes before that came out. Total disaster from start to finish I would advise anyone not to ever go to a De Vere for the hotel, restaurant or leisure club, complete nightmare.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else! The Hilton is nice.

Last Easter, staying in a De Vere hotel Southampton we were extremely disappointed, this year the experience was very good. Three nights in an Upper Deck Double room. Plenty of parking, good welcome and check in, lovely spacious room at the back of hotel overlooking woodland, dark decoration so, yes, even with lights on not the lightest of rooms but plenty of light from 2 large windows. Cleaned and EVERYTHING replenished every day including another bottle of water when existing half full. A little cobwebby in one high corner and bit of discolouration around the bath but plenty of towels, toiletries, hot water.
Ate in Buccaneer di Beppo first night which was very good, excellent service and staff knowledgeable to make recommendations. As there were 300 guests advised by same staff as to what time to attend breakfast!
Breakfast overflowed into victory pub and again everything you could want - self service cooked choices which weren't piping hot but meant no long waits and regularly replenished too.
A coffee and muffin sitting in the sun at the in house Starbucks, a stroll across the car park to the cinema on a rainy afternoon, dinner at one of the two Indian restaurants after the film - nothing special I have to say but pleasant and fairly priced.
On arrival a walk across to the local Asda for some wine and munchies and even a borrowed bottle opener from the bar for the cork!
We felt all the staff were well trained and they certainly noticed everything. They would say hello when passing you in the public areas, wish you a good day, chat at breakfast but getting just the right balance between ignoring customers or being too familiar and even wishing us a safe journey as we made our way to checkout. It was this attention to detail we were particularly impressed with!
The bed was firm and comfortable with an array of pillows and fusions to choose from the public areas downstairs were always buzzing but in the main guests seemed respectful too.
Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front had balconies which would have been a nice advantage but overlooked the hotel car...

Having stayed in several De Vere hotels in the UK, we were confident that we would be getting the usual high quality from the Swindon hotel- sadly this was not the case. The room was spacious and clean, there was free wifi and the gym and pool were very good. However, the hotel was tired and in great need of a refurb, scuff marks on the paintwork and doors and the room was very dark and uninspiring. The food was just very average and we expect more from this hotel chain. We only stopped one night instead of two such was the level of disappointment .

This is our second stay at this hotel, and the second time we've received great service from friendly helpful staff and not been disappointed at all. We booked an Easter special - 3 nights stay with bed and breakfast for a very reasonable price for us and our two boys aged 4 and 7 years. We had requested a quiet room which was honoured, we had been given a lovely spacious family room far away from the elevators and common areas on the second floor.
I visited reception on the first evening to ask advice re; where to take the boys the following day and was given great advice and help which even involved one of the staff showing me how to do a number of different things on my iPhone! They were all prepared to go above and beyond to help me.
It came to the morning of our checkout and unfortunately due a fault with the door to our room, we were unable to get back in to our room after breakfast. The staff made every effort to help as much as they could, but eventually they had to call in a maintenance person. Yes it was a slight inconvenience however the staff were polite, professional, and very apologetic and we were looked after well with a free drink in Starbucks and a late check out of 1pm which was great but really not necessary as the fault was fixed within 30-45 minutes.
I cannot fault this place and the staff, it is ideal for families and we have certainly enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thanks to the whole team at the Village, much appreciated.

The hotel has a touch of 'do as little as possible for the customers'. The rooms are spacious but the carpet and the bathroom has seen better days. The breakfast has a lot of variety but just average quality. There is one fitness center in house that is fantastic.

We booked this hotel because it was the venue for our niece's 40th Birthday Party; this is a sizeable hotel which has a spa, pool and large, well equipped gym. There is therefore a lot of coming and going through the foyer area. Parking close to the hotel is reasonable although access for older or less able people couldto park very near as someone moved out.
The room was large and well equipped. Slightly odd was that the coffee/tea making equipment was on a rectangular box . The desk/dressing table was rather cluttered with a TV free-standing mirror and table lamp..The room would have benefitted from a small table and perhaps a small 'fridge. Televison was of the Freeview variety but we did not spend long investigating any other faclilities. The room was therefore very adequate for purpose. The bed was large but quite high and firm. Bathroom was well equipped although with a fixed shower screen it was not easy to access the bath/shower. A vertical handle would have been good.
There are two eating places. A pleasant Italian themed restaurant and a pub. Food was fine although one course of dinner was very over-salted but was changed without demur.
Function room for party was fine and refreshments perfectly adequate although we found drink prices steep. A pint and glass of wine nearly £10.
No major failings. Staff were polite and helpful.

Room Tip: There is an inner courtyard surrounded by rooms. This might be preferable to ours which overlooked a...

Booked a one night Spa package with my friend. This is my second stay here in the past 18 months & definitely not so good this time. On arrival the Receptionist wouldn't look after our cases as our room wasn't ready. They failed to mention we could use the facilities in the Hotel example the Gym,Sauna,Pool etc before our room was ready. Luckily I knew this from my last visit!! I booked a twin room but they said a Double was booked, showed them my email so all was sorted. Emailed Spa treatment bookings before hand as requested, but hotel never received it. Girls were lovely who did the treatments though. Room was clean but very dark paper & walls, brighter lights would be better & a lick of paint may be. Only could use the pub for evening meal as a wedding was going on. Very limited food & full of blokes watching football, no women or families at all. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, could have been hotter though! Probably would stay some where else next time.
