“Great choice in Swindon”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

We were checked in by Jane, she was very warm and friendly and so was her colleague. They helped us with directions and explained all the services available in the hotel.

We had a Superior Room, very spacious, with a huge bed, nice desk chair and a sofa bed. It was good to see an extra set of towels in a bag inside the wardrobe for a 3rd person, shame it didn't have a bathrobe for the 2nd guest, or any slippers at all. Anyway, the bed linen was good quality, everything in the room worked and it was pleasant. The minibar was filled, the kettle could have been cleaner, there was some lime scale inside. The room is comfy but not luxurious, it looked like a good 4 star property, although a bit of modernisation wouldn't go amiss.

The bathroom is a bit dated, the tub had some stains and marks, it looked quite old, the seat was moving, I guess it's time to bring the bathroom up to date a bit. The toiletries were good quality but not designer (such as the ones from Hilton). There was also a scale, a complimentary bottle of water and good soaps.

We used the Health club, lovely pool, the Jacuzzi was warm but very small, it would get very cramped if more than 3 people tried to use it at the same time. Sauna and steam room were good too. This area in the hotel is also showing it's age but it was clean, and that's important.

We had a problem at night when a group of rowdy party goers came back aroun 1am, it sounded like 50 people screaming and running on the corridor, and we were the unlucky ones staying in the room next to them. Because of the connecting doors, we could hear everything, all the loud laughing and the music. Reception came up to tell them off but the noise continued so I had to call reception again. Georgina went the extra mile and moved us to another room on the same floor and later send a letter apologizing for the night's events and offering a late check out, that was unexpected and made me happy that the hotel seemed to care about our stay, well done to the reception staff.

Breakfast was good, not a huge spread but again, the service was perfect, Sarah made us feel welcome and was very attentive, as were the others working in the restaurant. We could have freshly fried eggs, omeletes, fresh fruit and bread. The muffins were tasty! Sadly the coffee tasted funny, like it was too strong, but then sarah brought us another pot of tea and we were happy.

Check out was painless, again, the receptionist apologized for the night's troubles and asked if there was anything else the hotel could do for us. The hotel should keep the staff members, they're worth it!

This is a good place to stay if you're in Swindon, I would stay again.

Room Tip: Avoid interconnecting rooms, sound travels a lot.

This weekend I took a coach party of 53 to stay at The Marriott Swindon whilst on a weekend to Bath Christmas Markets and a trip to The Cotswolds. I could not fault the service. First of all we were talked in by a girl on Reception because the coach driver was unsure of the location. Nothing was too much trouble. Extremely efficient check in, all guests had keys in named envelopes and there were absolutely no complaints. The breakfast was excellent. The service in the restaurant was efficient and friendly. The girls on reception were very helpful, professional and friendly.
The rooms were a very good size, very clean and well stocked with towels and bathroom accessories. It was noticeable that the decoration was a little tired and showed its age but everything was in working order and totally acceptable.
I didn't have time to sample the pool unfortunately but nevertheless good to know it was available should I have had the opportunity.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to visitors to Swindon.

This is now an excellent, comfortable and relaxing hotel. It is so much improved since our last visit about 5 years ago. The Reception was great, the room was very comfortable and the restaurant was excellent. We enjoyed a swim in the renovated pool. We will be visiting again on our next trip to Swindon

Stayed here using up some Marriott points, as they had a special offer on, Absolutely no problems, some decor shows its age, as it is with most 3 & 4* hotels, but everywhere was, clean fresh, tidy and well presented, my room was a double room, and smaller than most marriotts but still perfectly acceptable, with trouser press, seats, desk, minibar and tea/coffee marking facilities.

Staff were all very friendly and approachable, usual Marriott buffet breakfast was perfectly fine, leisure centre was clean and welcoming. Plenty of free parking to round things off. Avoid the wifi though its very much overpriced, especially nowadays when 3G mobile data works just as well.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times now... all in all, a good hotel, which offers especially good rates at the weekend. Rooms are of a good standard, food in restaurant is typical hotel fare, breakfast is very good. However, the hotel could do with a bit of a makeover... the breakfast area, bedrooms, swimming pool are now all looking a bit worn...... if you come here, expect usual Marriott standards, but don't expect "boutique, chic, or luxury."

Room Tip: Top floor are the quietest rooms,

Stayed for a weekend and found it to be excellent, we were upgraded because of a booking problem and the room was clean and light. food was good in the restaurant if a little pricey but again the food was really very good. Nice to find a hotel with free parking and all the staff were friendly and helpful. the breakfast was outstanding, not dried out like some hotels.

I visited the Swindon Marriott for three nights on 1st November 2012 with my wife and 15 year-old son.
We were welcomed by Jade at the reception. Her personality and friendliness was very professional and she certainly made us feel welcome, especially after a long drive.
Check in was fast. The only thing I disagree with is the £50.00 deposit, per night, that you have taken off your debit card if you are paying for the room with cash. It took three days to get the money back to my account after our visit. Apparently it can take up to ten days. Money in Marriott’s account earning interest!
The room was up to Marriott’s usual standard. Clean room, clean bathroom and very comfortable beds and a 32” flat screen TV. The only thing that annoys me with Marriott rooms though is that when three people are staying, it would be nice to have three cups/glasses, not just two. Didn’t have a TV remote in the room, but when we contacted reception, one arrived within minutes. We contacted the bar a couple of times for ice (no ice machines in the corridors) and again the ice arrived straight away.
We used the pool each morning. Changing rooms were clean. Nice size pool. Nice steam room and sauna. Hot tub is too small though. Room really only for two adults, unless you know your fellow hot tubs users well!! The only problem that I had with the pool, and it’s something that really winds me up with most Marriotts, is that the pool can be used by non-residents. On the Friday morning there were about a dozen ‘elderly’ people in the pool who thought it was OK to stand around in the middle of the pool talking, meaning everyone else had to swim around them. The looks on their faces said ‘what are you doing in our pool!’ Marriott should also take a few more photos of the pool. The one on their web site doesn’t do the pool justice.
The bar was immaculate and again with friendly staff.
We didn’t eat in the hotel, so cannot comment on the food.
Overall, the Swindon Marriott is an excellent hotel. The hotel is spotless. Every member of staff was friendly and professional. We will definitely return.
If you fancy a walk and a drink in a pub, a ten minute stroll takes you to Swindon Old Town. Old Town has several pubs, bars and restaurants. The Goddard Arms was good for real ale and typical pub food. The Wheatsheaf Alehouse was nice, and let us in for a couple of drinks with our teenage son at seven o’clock. None of the others would. But that is typical of this country! Also a large Co-op if you want to take some wine back to your room instead of paying Marriott prices. Swindon Town centre is apparently about a twenty minute walk although buses stop just outside the hotel on the main road. Can’t say I was too impressed with Swindon Town centre. Watch out for the ridiculous ‘Magic Roundabout’ if you’re driving.
