“Great update”

My wife and I have stayed at the Swindon Marriott several times and always found it satisfactory. The hotel has now been refurbished on a couple of floors, and the refurbed rooms are outstanding. As always, the staff are very helpful and the restaurant more than good. We stay for family visits in the area and have found the Marriott to be the best for our purposes, and outstanding value

Room Tip: Any of the refurbished floors

good hotel, typical marriott hotel. good location if you are travelling to bath, oxford, stonehenge. Breakfast was good too. rooms are recently refurbished. would stay here again if in surrounding area. Staff were attentive and helpful, friendly. All in all very good hotel, compared to others in swindon.
Once refurbishment is done would be great asset for the hotel, as it is very old hotel.

Stayed here for one night as we were heading to Heathrow on our way back from Cornwall. Booked through Marriott website a "Superior Room", upon checkin my wife was told that there were no superior rooms were available and they would have to downgrade us. After complaining to the manager he found a "Superior Room". It was late evening so we dropped our bags and heeded into Swindon for dinner. Upon return we noticed that the AC had not cooled the room down a single degree - AC read 80F, a call to the front desk and they sent someone up to look at it and said it should be good. An hour later (11pm) and it was still 80F. We switched it off and opened the windows. For our last night before flying I wanted a good bed - B&B can be hit and miss - one of the reasons we booked the Marriott over a country inn in the area was predictable quality - what a mistake! The bed was so soft my wife had motion sickness in the morning. While packing in the morning we also realized that what was missing from the room was a sofa - one corner of the room was empty but you could see on the floor the imprint of where a sofa should have been.

I've stayed in Marriott hotels all over the US and Europe and this has to be the worst Marriott room I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Don't stay here - choose another hotel.

The last time I stayed here was a few years ago, but as I was in the area for a couple of days (and being a general Marriott junkie) I thought I'd see how things have moved on.

My first impression was that the decor had improved somewhat and I discovered that they are coming to the end of a refurbishment program (due to finish in Sept 2013). The whole of the 2nd floor was inaccessible as it had the current refurb focus.

As there is nothing much nearby, I went for room service on both nights I was here. Pizza one night and the Vegetable Jalfrezi the other. The first order took around 30m to be delivered and the second order only 15m. The food quality and appearance were disappointing on both occasions. It looked as if the pizza had been assembled by a builder rather than a professional chef (no disrespect intended to any builders reading this). On top of the Margherita pizza base was a thick layer of sliced tomatoes, on top of them was a thick layer of chunky mushrooms, on top of them was a thick layer of chunky onions and on top of them were layers of multiple grated cheeses and all soaked in what felt like a litre of olive oil. The Jalfrezi followed a similar pattern with large chunks of vegetables in a watery curry sauce with plain rice (not basmati). The dinners came to around £30 each with a pint of beer.

The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and as standard these days in many hotels.

Likes
+ Powerful air-con unit that worked very well
+ Friendly staff
+ Nice, comfortable room + bed

Dislikes
- The noise from the powerful air-con unit
- Room-service food

We booked to stay 2 nights while we were in the area for a 26 mile Charity trek last weekend.
The check in was good, and the girl behind the counter friendly and helpful. She sorted out our 4:45am wake up call for the next morning and when we asked about the breakfast, offered us a takeaway continental breakfast at 5:30am the next morning. We had dinner in town, had a good night's sleep in the very comfortable bed and were woken at 4:45am. There was no-one in reception at 5:30am, and our breakfast hadn't been prepared. The kitchen claimed they hadn't been told about it, Marriott have since been in touch regarding our complaint(s) to say it had been made but not picked up by the morning kitchen staff to get it to us on time.. either way, we headed off for our hike hungry. (And the aircon didn't work that well).
Upon our return that evening, we stopped in at reception to let them know about our issue with breakfast, and they were defensive rather than apologetic.
Sunday morning 4:45am, we got an unrequested wake up call!! And were woken again shortly after by the aircon trying to vacate the room.
Breakfast was wonderful and our check out was quick and professional.

As said previously, we have received feedback from the Marriott; the unhelpful staff member apparently no longer works there, the aircon in room 340 supposedly fixed, the staff spoken to about the importance of communication and the wake up call system is going to be reviewed so as not to wake up guests when not required.

Some positives:
The room is spacious, the curtains properly blacked out, we were given complimentary custard creams, the bathroom was OK, the bed and pillows so comfortable, parking is free for guests but there is a short walk, the staff were generally friendly, it's a short walk from the old town for restaurants/bars, breakfast was very nice and they have takeaway coffee cups in the room!

A couple of tips. Make sure you check before you go to sleep that:
a) your wake up call is set or removed
b) your takeaway breakfast has been ordered
c) you make a takeaway coffee - just in case :-)

One thing I found strange - the packaging of the complimentary toiletries were lovely the first night, and then plain the second...surely you would maintain standards across the entire stay of your guests?

We would stay again, now that we know the above and what you need to check to make your stay lovely - which ours was - generally speaking :-)

This was our 4th stay at this Marriot and once again very good.
We were checked in by a very good young foreign girl. Very helpful.
We were staying for our anniversary which I e mailed about and requested a newly refurbished room. We had a new room. Nice décor but the bathroom should have had a full make over as the taps are bad. No acknowledgment of our anniversary though!
The room was very warm and the air con is not great. Noisy and does not cool much.
House service did not do our room very good on the 2nd day. No refreshments replenished and no clean towels.
The health club is lovely. 24hour gym which is great. Nice pool and spa area.
The breakfast was excellent on both mornings. Good service too.
Good position to the old town where there are some good bars and eating places.
Overall very good and will stay again.

This is a good hotel well positioned particularly for business meeting and I have used it often and eaten there, usually lunch.
BUT having asked for 2 ham sandwiches at about £8 each, you would expect decent fresh bread and a good quality ham, specially as it was optimistically described as 'Wiltshire' in the menu. What arrived was a couple of very tired sandwiches filled with Piccalli, can't stand it, thin sliced ham of unknown origin and uninspiring salad with crisps. Why crisps - are the British incapable of inspiration or is it just Swindon? But it was Monday and there was nobody in the restaurant - I can understand that!
The hotel needs to sharpen its act.
