I went there to meet with my friends who were staying for a few days with their young family. We had dinner with them the night they arrived, only to be told the children would not be able to stay after 7pm. Since the order for food had been taken and they took two children s menu orders we thought this was unacceptable, especially as they were staying in the hotel and well behaved.

The food when it arrived was the worse food I think I have ever tasted in my life, the Fish platter was just full of oil and disgusting the Pies were just bricks with no meat and pastry.
Worse was still to come, the male toilets had every urinal full to the brim and the sinks were running away with the lights out in the cubical... It was one of the worse experiences We have ever had. not just from a service point of view but from a health and safety point of view. I will never recommend this place to anyone for a room or for food. It has previously been local and used by friends and colleagues.. I can honestly say never never again....

Ok so it was my birthday this week, decided on an evening meal at the Goddard's, can't say I've really paid it much attention before despite living in Old Town for many years. My better half had a risotto and I had a a beef pie. Can't fault it, staff were very attentive, Ale's were obviously well looked after and we'd eat there again. Pub is clean, toilets are acceptable and we enjoyed my birthday meal.

Had lunch with a friend here today. Very relaxed, friendly staff and very good food. Haven't been in for a long time after a bad experience a couple of years ago. It's a different place now if a little expensive. But very tasty! They serve Lavazza coffee which is one of my favourites too. There should be an area that caters for adults without kids though. Too many screaming toddlers for my liking. I guess that's most pubs these days though!

having been completely re-vamped and modernised I was stunned by the new look. unlike shenanigans2014 I was impressed by the new menu. yes some things are similar but lots of new items. having spoken to most of the staff on duty they had been given little training on new menu's and systems ( a corporate problem maybe????? ) . no matter, my rib-eye steak was cooked to perfection and arrived within 20 mins. and was very hot. maybe shenanigans2014 should give it another try because I and my family definitely will.

Ate breakfast here last Friday, only one fry up dish offered nothing smaller on the menu would have been notice to have the option of 1 egg, bacon etc rather than 2 of each. Fried egg was congealed, beans looked like mush and sausages had obviously been under a hot plate for a while. The bacon was all clumped together and fatty so was clearly a cheap cut and a miniscule portion of fried mushrooms. No toast provided either. Did not finish and won't be eating here for breakfast again!!

Had lunch today after the Goddards' reopened! Loved it! Real friendly people and really nice food. It's just a great place to eat and drink. We've been eating there for about a year when on lunch form work and it's always been good, we're just glad to see the owner has finally spent some money on the dated interior. Now it's very modern and so clean. Good work you guys!

Following the £300,000 refurbishment of the restaurant, my colleagues and I decided to go for lunch to see the new place. Previously the Goddards was known for its cheap and cheerful menu, and reasonably quick service.

45 minutes after ordering, the most disorganised restaurant in Swindon failed to bring any food, and the staff didn't even seem to notice. The staff had no idea what they were doing, most bringing food to the wrong tables, complete chaos.

The food that did come out (to some of colleagues) was the exact same food as before, just twice the price and you now have to pay £2 extra for chips as they're not included in the increased price anymore.

Our food not coming out was blamed on 'the system' and we were refunded. The refund took 10 minutes as 2 newbies and a manager couldn't figure out the card machine. From a few glasses smashing and tills being "too difficult" to work, it seems the money should have been better spent on staff training...

They also removed Aspall's from tap. Not quality.
