“Poor service less than average food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013 via mobile

We decided to try the crown too celebrate our anniversary. We had eaten here just after it opened abd found it wanting. I thought it would have improved how wrong tge food was velow par the main course was ok the rest of the neal was poor. The service was nonexistent having to cgase the staff to get a drink. Not well informed. Avoid here at all costs

“You'll be guaranteed a very friendly welcome and great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2013

After dropping by a couple of times on Friday nights on the off chance and finding it full, we booked and got seats on a Saturday night without a problem - seems you can never tell which nights are going to be busy (incl mid-week) according to the owners so if you are driving to Shrivenham it's always worth phoning first!
Anyway, we felt right at home as soon as we arrived due to the ultra-friendly welcome and laid-back atmosphere. There are obviously lots of people who come here regularly with friends, as well as couples out for a more romantic supper - it's not big but has areas to comfortably meet with all needs. And the food is really tasty - I tried fab fish and chips served on a wooden platter and the fish was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Husband had one of their steak selections and sauces which apparently was cooked to perfection. I couldn't resist their sticky toffee put which was just delicious.
The combination of the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly, attentive service makes this place somewhere you really want to come back to again and again. (They also do a very tasty range of lunches too)

“Nice pub, ok grub!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2013

Went for a late mothers day meal, sat next to a very cold area of the place, could not move due to it being very busy, that said the food was nice and the atmosphere is good, service not excellent so no need to tip this place as you tip the waiters for the job they do, in this instance not a good one. It is a local for myself. Had a wake there last year and the BBQ was very good.

“Great Service, very friendly pub, but....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2012

we did feel a little let down by the food. Had the Sunday roast and was a bit disappointed after seeing the reviews on here (which was one of the main reasons we visited). It was good, but must admit I expected a little better, perhaps my expectations were raised too high.
Decent pint, very friendly and obliging staff and puddings to die for. Not so bad that we've been put off and we will try again, as we may have just hit one of those slightly off days
