“Comfortable stay”
Reviewed 21 August 2012

We stayed here for 1 night on the way back home after seeing friends in Bristol. We used our priority points towards the cost of the room which was quite useful. We have stayed here before and never had any problems. Infact, some of the reviews on the decor are a bit unfair. Yes, in areas, some of the exteriors need a facelift, but that is more than compensated for the friendly staff, modern interiors and clean/comfortable rooms.

Check in - Great staff, very friendly and helpful sorting us out with some extra pillows for the kids.

Room - Good size room ,however compact bathroom with low water pressure for the shower. All clean however with working air con, comfortable beds and new HD TV. Ample towels, shower gels/shampoos and tea/coffee making facilities

Breakfast - Again, good choice of hot/cold foods, cereals, fruits, juices, as much as you want. Staff member was friendly however she could have done with some help to clear plates away, restock on items etc. We did not have dinner as we arrived late in the evening.

Pool - This adds value to the stay with a clean area, warm pool/hot tub/sauna etc. That was nice to do just before we checked out and headed for the local outlets.

Check out - No issues. Tip - If you book a room without breakfast then decide to have it when you check in, book it at reception rather than the restaurant as it is £4-£5 cheaper.

Overall, a great place to stay in my opinion, and will come back again when next in the area.

Tired old building, walls painted with dull magnolia. The restaraunt resembles a staff canteen. The room I stayed in was OK but the bathroom was very dated and small with dirty grouting. Platinum priority members get a kit kat and a bottle of water, the first holiday inn I have stayed in for a long time where I did not recieve an upgrade and a free dink voucher.

On the plus side, it's close to the motorway and cheap

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review on the Holiday Inn Swindon.

Firstly i would like to thank you for your loyalty to the brand as you are a platinum member of our Priority Club scheme.
With regards to your comment about your complimentary upgrade as a Platinum guests this service is unfortunately subject to availablity throughout all of our hotels, we do aim to try and upgrade our Platinum members where possible. Following on with your comment about the free drinks voucher this is not a company standard for all of our hotels for our Platinum guests, some hotels such as our franchise hotels are able to offer this but unfortunaley this is not a standard for our hotel, drinks vouchers for the hotels can be purchased by our members using their priority club points through the priority club website.

Your comments about the hotel have been shared with managers here, the Holiday Inn bedrooms are currently in the process of being updated throughout the estate work on this should start within the next 6-12months, also the ambiance of the our restaurant here is currently being worked on to improve the feel of a difference between breakfast dining and then evening dining for our guest.

We do try our hardest to maintain the up keep and company standards for the overall hotel condition and appearance.

Once again thank you for your time and for your feedback on the hotel, we hope to see you again soon at the hotel.

Kind Regards
Helen Norcup

I was on a coach trip to Longleat and Legoland with my 2 children (my girls first ever visit to a hotel). Our room was a family room with a double bed and a fold out sofa bed that my 5 year old chose for herself. Room was basic but clean and not cramped with a nice view.
Knew in advance that the hotel had a pool so we all took our swimsuits and towels but didnt need the latter as towels are provided by the pool reception.
meals were nice but as a set menu for the coach party it got a bit samey - roast pork one night, roast beef night 2 and roast lamb night 3. The desserts were gorgeous though but would have been nice if they'd provided a childrens choice of icecream as the "posh" tortes were not in the interests of a 5 year old or a 9 year old. Breakfasts were fabulous with plenty of choice for even the fussiest eater my only moan was having to chase up a member of staff every morning to get a cup of tea
Staff throughout were absolutely lovely, polite and friendly

Firstly thank you for taking the time to review the Holiday Inn Swindon, all of our reviews are shared with the team and we were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your break away with us.

The comments that you have provided regarding the food for our coach tours and desserts for the children have been passed on to the head chef at the hotel and the tour menu's will be reviewed and changes to this will be made where necessary to improve the tour guests dining experience.

We are pleased to hear that you used the leisure facilities here at the hotel always a great way for the kids to burn some energy and the adults too.

Two day stay whilst attending a meeting at the Defence Academy at Shrivenham. This hotel is very convenient as it is located just off the M4, not just for that but also for the Great Western Hospital. Clearly they have a loyal clientele as regular customers were greeted as old friends which is a nice touch. That said, as a new customer I did not feel unwelcome.

Highlights
- Given the opportunity to purchase a breakfast voucher at check in, rather than being stung later.
- All services explained.
- Fresh porridge at breakfast
- Attentive table staff
- Emphasis on not keeping customer waiting.

Downsides
- Had to change rooms as first one smelled of smoke
- Noise levels due to thin walls

My room was changed on request. Would suggest you try for a room in the range 130-140, as these are nicer. Only drawback is that they are in the middle so noise from other guests can be an issue.

Overall a fairly decent place.

Dear Guest,

Firstly thank you for taking the time to review the Holiday Inn Swindon, we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.

As you mentioned the hotel is conveniently located off the M4 and in a great location to get to Shrivenham. We try our hardest to make our guests feel as relaxed and as comfortable as possible when they are with us at the hotel, as we all know being away from home is not always a great feeling so we strive for that home from home feel so our guests can feel at ease.

Thank you for your words about the service that you received during your stay and your highlights about the hotel, with regards to the downsides we do currently still have a few smoking rooms at the hotel as we aim to try and cater for all of our customers requirements, but as you mentioned if you are unhappy with your room for any reason we will where possible room move our guests to another room where they will be happier.

Once again thank you for reviewing the Holiday Inn Swindon and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon whether it be for business or leisure.

Kind Regards

We stayed for 1 night after going to the RIAT 2012 at RAF Fairford. After a long day we turned up at the hotel which is a great location only 10 minutes from the airfield!. The reception desk was very jolly, helpful and answered every question I had. They booked us in for dinner and breakfast giving detailed times. Informed us about the FREE spa. The rooms are very clean and beds comfortable and the aircon quite. We made use of the free pool, sauna and jacuzzi which is included in your room price. The evening meal was excellent and the food presentation was top notch. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet breakfast was also excellent with empty buffet dishes being replaced almost immediately with hot food (not luke warm with some buffet places), also kids 12 and under eat free. I must stress that all the staff were a pleasure and I will definitely be staying there again next year after the 2013 RIAT! Also if you are luck you might get to see some of the aircrew from the show, the South Korean Black Eagles display team were there when we stayed.
