This feels like a proper country hotel although it is only 10 mins from Swindon. The grounds are nice, the rooms large and the staff helpful.

But overall it does feel a little run down, but not to bad. The breakfast was good with excellent scrambled eggs. However the evening meal was poor the Sardines hardly edible and the risoto underdone.

Having said that got a good discount so probably value for money

Thank you for your review. I am disappointed that dinner was not to your satisfaction. I hope that next time you stay you will experience more changes to lift the feel, and a much more enjoyable dinner.

Taking a party of 17 adults away is not an easy task, BUT Chiseldon House made it so. All of the staff Sue, Mark and thier entire staff were exceedingly helpful, attended to our every need and made our stay an imensly enjoyable one. Almost all of the rooms had been refurbished to a high standard and were very comfortable. I had arranged to have the private dining room for both of our nights stay. The food which had been pre- ordered was brought in with no fuss and was exceeding well managed. All of the orders where correct and the food was of an equally high standard to the level of service we received. Nothing was too much trouble, a level of service that is hard to find now.
A huge thank you to you all.
S.M.

Room Tip: Room 9 was large, light and airy with a double aspect overlooking the grounds and courtyard

I enjoyed the restaurant and the breakfast was good and served earlier than the advertised time as I had an early start. The rooms are unfortunately rather in need of a makeover, particularly at the prices they are charging. Ancient wallpaper and poor lighting from another era. The are very old notices fixed with blu-tac on to the wall by the door which looks very amateur. Good sized and clean towels. The service is very charming and helpful.

We were disappointed with the poor reception and extremely noisy room.

Four of us stayed two nights before and after my wife's 60th birthday celebration where they catered for 60 of our friends and family with Pimms (in the garden!), three course hot Sunday lunch, & super chilled champagne. Sue and Mel are excellent hosts, Sue especially is calm but very professional in her approach. The staff were courteous, hard working, well organised and could not have done more for us. We felt very welcomed, we will recommend it to others and we will be back.. Thanks for making a 60th birthday party very special.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the front of the hotel, quiet & comfortable.

We had an "Experience Gift" of a champagne afternoon tea and choose this hotel as the one nearest our home did not have good reviews.
the hotel is about 10 minutes from the M4 and set in very nice grounds. On arrival we were given a personalised menu detailing our afternoon tea. As I am not overly fond of cakes I asked if these could be swapped for additional sandwiches (this is usually accomodated at other places where we have had tea), unfortunately this could not be done here. The choice of tea was very good, even having Roobos for those who prefer to go without the caffeine. The sandwiches were lovely - Brie and cranberry, Smoked salmon, and Wiltshire Ham and Mustard. The scones were not home made but there was a nice strawberry jam and clotted cream. The cakes were carrot cake, coffee and walnut cake and chocolate marble cake. I tried a bit of the carrot cake but found it bland and greasy - but then as I said I am not a lover of cake. Oddly enough we asked for pastry forks to eat the cakes and there didn't seem to be any. The champagne was lovely and overall the afternoon tea was presented very nicely.

The toilet facilities were clean and there were some nice smelling toiletries.

Downside: the dining room superficiially looked very nice but on closer inspection could do with a lick of paint and the carpet was threadbare in places.
For background noise the radio was on which didn't really give the right ambience for a nice afternoon tea.

Conclusion - nice for tea but not overly special

Thank you for your feedback. I can only apologise that we did not manage to provide sandwiches as an alternative to the cake for you, and am disappointed that our scones were not thought to be homemade; our chef does handmake them with some degree of uniformity.

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend earlier this month as part of a large party but found that it did not live up to the standards indicated by their website. The hotel was understaffed with poor service at the evening meals and those who were serving were rushing round to try and cope but this gave a very unrelaxed atmosphere. The central heating was not available for large periods of time. Our bed was very old, small and uncomfortable and we did not sleep well. The bedroom was in need of decoration. The factor that gave us to believe that the hotel might be struggling was the limited Wine List and then, whenever we asked for an additional bottle, we were told that they had run out of this particular wine and we had to select another wine from the ever-reducing List with the more expensive bottles only remaining. This happened 3 times. There was a quiz on the Saturday evening and the name that we gave our table was "The Bin-enders"! The breakfast food was a redeeming feature but some of our party had to wait up to 30 minutes to receive their food. They had difficulty in serving a large party. The bathroom was good but there was a light bulb that needed replacing. We won't be going back and will not recommend this hotel to friends and family!

I’m sorry that your stay was not to your satisfaction. I certainly do not like guest disappointment. Our bin end specials have proved popular, but can understand the frustration when a limited stock offer runs out. We are just about to launch our new wine list and I hope that we can have the chance to provide a much greater experience for you in the future.
