“The Great Escape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2011

We enjoyed a great stay at The Pear Tree in Purton and thoroughly liked the rooms, service and food. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we where greeted and treated with amazing service.

We stayed in two king rooms and it was perfect. Very spacious rooms with large windows and a door leading onto a balcony with stairs leading off into the extensive grounds. Inside the room a large chaise longue, flat screen television, free Wi-Fi and the absolute highlight, a large spa bath, perfect for unwinding. The housekeeping was to a very high standard and the satsuma’s and pear drops in the room on arrival was a nice touch.

The location was lovely. Beautiful grounds (covered with light snow) and you could even see the occasional deer wander in the grounds.

We enjoyed a excellent dinner which was wonderful and yet again, nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

This was really a wonderful stay and worth every pound. Thank you everyone at The Pear Tree. We will certainly be back !

I've stayed at The Pear Tree several times. It's is one of my favourite places. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, the staff are lovely and the food is excellent. Added to all this are several acres of charming grounds where you can sit or have a peaceful wander. Beyond the formal pond and very attractive flower beds there are less formal areas - a little park really - lawns, trees, a wild flower meadow, and a vineyard which is due to produce its first wine in time for the Olympics. It all adds up to a really lovely place to stay and I'll certainly be going back.

Upon check in we were greeted by the owner who was very welcoming and charming. She carried our bags to our room. We had the room with the 4 poster bed and jacuzzi tub. The room is small, but adequate, and very charming with an amazing view. There was fresh fruit, wine, cookie/biscuits and water waiting for us. She also offered to have a late lunch brought to our room for us......sandwiches which arrived within 10 minutes and were delicious. DINNER: We were shown to the living room area and brought drinks.....and menus. After placing our order, we were escorted to our table in the dining room. I won't bore you with every detail, but the starter was fabulous......the main meal arrived and we were disappointed to see that the Scottish beef we borh ordered was rare....we ordered it to be cooked medium. We notified the maitre'd who didn't seem bothered and apologized but offered no solution immediately. He eventually offered to have them put back on the stove to cook them further, which we found unacceptable. Since no further offer was forthcoming, and because we were hungry, we eventually conceded defeat and asked him to return them to the kitchen for further cooking. 15 minutes passed, and the steaks were brought back - still rare. I'm not sure if any effort was actually made or if we insulted the chef and he decided to not cook them additionally - don't know, but they were still rare. My husband decided to eat his - but I didn't eat mine.. Dessert - I had the Orange Blossom Tiramasue.....I truly could not taste any espresso in this since the Orange Blossom was so overwhelming, however, having said that, it was delicious. My husband ordered the Roasted Pear, and he said it was fabulous. Overall, I would recommend the Pear Tree, and I would stay there again. By the way, breakfast was fantastic - loved it...much better experience than dinner.

What a super hotel, we went away on the 10th October to celebrate by birthday.
What a super hotel, we could not fault this hotel at all.Awaiting in the room on our arrival was a plate of fruit and two bottles of quality water, sparkling and still.
On the tea tray was two beautiful home baked shortcake biscuits, which both was replaced each day. What a treat after a day out and about!
Super white fluffy bath towels
white fluffy bathrobes, even cotton wool buds and cotton wool balls put in the bathroom. The bed was so comfortable also.
Service was impecable. We had dinner each evening, what a treat, they must employ the top chefs! and desserts to die for. This hotel is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN.
We shall most certainly be staying there again.

Lovely gardens and very comfortable clean rooms. We enjoyed walks in the garden and a lovely dinner in the pavilion.

We had booked a 2 night break with the sunday evening to include dinner. On arrival on saturday the lady on reception was busy taking another booking on the telephone which meant that we had to wait a while to be checked in. We were upgraded to an executive room which had a lovely view of the back garden. Impressive!! The room was a good size with a seating area but we felt it was a little shabby and old fashion. The carpet definitely needed replacing and also all carpets particulaly on stairs and corridors along with the rather hideous pink/white striped wallpaper should be updated.
On the first evening we walked to the local curry house in Purton About a ten minute walk from the hotel. We had a delicious curry and would recommend this restaurant as service was very good and reasonably priced. On the Sunday evening dinner we had in hotel. Its was very tasty but why do these restaurants not give a proper size main course?.
Too much emphasis on presentation we think. We enjoy a good wholesome meal so we left feeling hungery and a little cheated. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice.
Location of hotel is down a country road and if you enjoy walking there are walks straight out of the hotel across the road .
We enjoyed our stay here(especially sitting out in the beautiful garden)but like a lot of hotels it does not represent good value for money.
