If you want somewhere to go for afternoon tea in Swindon do try the Marriot Hotel where an excellent tea is served in the Bar/Lounge area which, through sound proof glass, overlooks the swimming pool but .............................
Although we have regularly met with business associates or friends and enjoyed afternoon tea, or an early evening snack, in comfort at the Marriot Hotel not this time!
On that day, there was an overpowering smell of chlorine in the Hotel Lobby, we had to search long and hard for a waiter as the Bar/Lounge area seemed to be completely unmanned and our visit was ruined by small children screaming and repeatedly ramming chairs across the uncarpeted solid floor of the Bar area. They were completely out of control for well over half an hour whilst their oblivious young mothers chatted after a swimming session. That aggravation was cemented by the fact that there were no staff on hand to deal with the disruption they were causing.
My advice for visitors and guests is 'carry out a recce of the Bar and Lounge area' before settling in for afternoon tea or meeting with business associates and to the Marriot Hotel is 'give some thought' to where young families, visiting simply to use the Health Club facilities or for swimming lessons, might wait with their children and not cause disruption or inconvenience for guests or visitors to the hotel. If this is not possible, then please ensure that the area is adequately staffed and that staff are trained to make young families using the Health Club/Swimming Pool aware of acceptable conduct in a public area.
A very disappointing experience!
