“Not the Cod in batter we anticipated really disappointing.”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

My wife and I and our friends visited the Plough on the evening of Friday 23rd May. We arrived about 6-45pm and the place was very busy. We were lucky in that a table became free within about 5 minutes of arriving. We ordered drinks and then from the Menu we ordered 3 portions of the battered Cod with fries, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Also one portion of the Grilled Tuna Steak with red pesto and garlic butter.
We were warned that due to their being very busy the wait would be about 50 minutes. Not far short of this the food arrived in 45 minutes. However the cod if it was cod was almost flat, just like the Findus portions from a frozen packet. It was not produced as we had expected with pieces of fish dipped in batter then fried. This was in our view frozen portions with batter attached, resulting in the flat look and asking the question as to if it was cod or a substitute. The mushy peas were exactly what it said on the menu and were delicious, as was the Grilled Tuna Steak, but there was no sign of the red Pesto in the minimal portion of Garlic butter. Whilst the pub was very popular at times the noise from the customers made it hard to hear each other speak. Maybe next time we will choose one of the famous pies and try it on a less busy night.

“closed apparantly !!!!”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

Driving through the lovely village of Wanborough we decided to pop into The Plough, 3pm Saturday afternoon, for a drink. As we entered the room fell silent and a gentleman , who I presume was the Landlord looked at my wife and said " we're closed, we are just closing now". Stunned my wife replied, "oh I'm sorry , you don't look closed?" to which he replied " we do get some time off you know".
We left immediately worried we were to be chased away with raised pitchforks, only joking! I can honestly say that was the rudest welcome we have ever received but luckily we're both big enough to laugh it off and we spent a lovely few hours in the Harrow down the road.

“Good quality food.”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

This is a beautiful thatched village pub. Open fires, low beams and absolutely beautiful. This was my first visit to the Plough and I will be returning. The food was of amazing quality from start to finish and very well presented.

It has a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of parking.

Quick service from the team who were all very friendly.

Will go again,

“Look forward to visiting this pub”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

This pub we keep getting drawn back to (for over 20 years) and whenever we are passing we stop to have a meal/drink. The menu is good wholesome pub food, cooked to order. Steaks are excellent and their chicken, ham and leek pie extremely popular and delicious. Pasta dishes also good. Lamb cutlets and other dishes are served with the best chips (non greasy) and homemade coleslaw and fresh salad leaves. The staff and owners are very friendly and they are quick to clean tables after customers so no empty plates or glasses left for the next customer which so often happens these days. The pub is full of interesting artefacts and is dog friendly too. I wish we could have this pub nearer to our home.

“Good honest home made pub food!”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

The pub was extremely busy and as soon as we ordered we were advised we would have to wait a little while. The food came out with a lovely waitress who was cheerful and very helpful. The food was wonderful. Two of us had pies which were wonderful and another had the lamb cutlets which were tender. The puddings were also extremely good. The food was worth the wait. If you are eating in Wanborough and want lovely pub food this is the pub to be!
