“Booked into a suite! What a great deal.”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

We booked for a dinner bed and breakfast deal at this hotel and were absolutely delighted to find that we had been booked into a suite. We had a spacious lounge area, big bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower and a comfortable, good-sized bedroom. All cosy and warm and a very good deal.

We have visited this hotel several times at different times of the year and the grounds are a delight. There is a gate through to the neighbouring country park which is ideal for walking off the excesses of a lovely meal!

We've always found the staff (predominantly Japanese) to be courteous and available to answer any questions/queries that may arise. (We don't like staff to be overly attentive and find it annoying to be asked "is everything OK" every 5 minutes so the approach of the staff here is ideal for us).

The hotel and grounds look very desirable from the outside but as far as service and comfort goes, Stanton house is lacking. The Room we stayed in had some nice features but the radiators didn't work(unless you count the tepid warmth we recieved with the themostat on full), The ensuite was O.K. but god help you if need to use the toliet and your "Big Boned!" less than a meter gap you get sandwiched into to use the services.
The TV was a blast from the past, never mind HD I was just glad it had colour. The breakfast was O.K but I had to ask the not so attentive staff for conderments, glasses and tea ( it was a few days of xmas so they may of been suffering the effects of the night before or just in holiday mode).
My partner and I are visiting swindon again but have booked alternate accomidation as the stay as a whole was rememberable for the wrong reasons.

This is a unique hotel as far as I know. A lovely historic building in beautiful grounds, but owned and mainly run by Japanese people. The Honda factory is only a couple of miles away and so lots of Japanese people stay here. There is a Japanese restaurant of course and a limited English menu. I've stayed a few times, it's very good value, clean, but I've always found the beds a bit uncomfortable. it's a big hotel and worth a visit if you want to visit the area.

Room Tip: Avoid a room near a cleaning station.

Our initial greeting to the reception wasn't exactly the warm to say the least. We were early but asked if the rooms were ready for us to book in to. 'No 2 o'clock.' was the response. We weren't offered to wait in the bar/restaurant until we enquired if we actually could get a coffee somewhere.
Our room was very spacious, overlooking the grass to the rear of the hotel, with a very comfortable bed.
The food at the wedding was lovely. Breakfast was a buffet style which is standard for most hotels and was fine.
Apart from the initial greeting the staff were courteous and helpful.
It's a beautiful hotel, in great surroundings and would fully recommend it.

Beautiful location but sadly the hotel doesn't match the scenery. We stayed over for two nights for a wedding and soon realised we were paying the same amount for our small double room with a tiny window and big box tv as our friends in suites twice the size off ours with flat screen TV's. When we inquired about this matter the manageress - who was quite rude I might add stated that they have banded room types together and what were executive suites are now classed as standard and standard rooms were still the same. So it's pot luck which room you get for your money. The manageress was kind enough to tell me I wouldn't be complaining if I had got a former executive suite! Strangely making my point for me without actually realising it. She very reluctantly agreed to give us a small discount which was non-negotiable as she just walked away. All in all the surrounding are lovely - but you might want to enquiry just which kind of standard room you're receiving for your money.

Close to Swindon but also in the countryside. Highly recommended if you have transport. Very good food and really helpful staff. Only downside is rooms a little dark and old fashioned especially the TV!

Stayed here in September for one night on a Saturday. Paid £69 for a standard double (room only)- it was £59 which was very good, but we had to pay an extra £10 for our 4 month old baby. Never seen that before, or having to pay £10 for a cot (we used our own). I guess if we'd had breakfast too, our £59 room could have cost £99, which would have been the same as many of the other hotels in the area. That said, the hotel itself is nice, with a lovely conservatory to have coffee or a drink in the evening. There is no gym, but they've got a deal with David Lloyd in Swindon which I think you have to pay for (£8 ish), although you can get this included if you look at some of the deals on the usual hotel sites.

The room was good for the money we paid, clean with a nice, modern bathroom. The rooms come with a fridge, which is useful. We had a nice view of the garden too, which was better than we expected. The room wasn't massive, but it was a standard double and probably not that much different to anywhere else.

We ate in the restaurant and I think some of the other reviews referring to inexperienced staff are true to an extent, but we found the staff to be polite and helpful. Yes, sometimes things took a little longer than you'd expect, didn't affect our enjoyment at all. Food was excellent, although being Japanese, make sure you understand what you're getting!

There is a Japnese vibe throughout the hotel, which is nice. It is a little different to the norm, but in a good way. Would definitely go to this hotel again.
