“Little Mini-break”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

We booked here for a little mini-break whilst visting the area nearby. We paid around £300.00 for three nights bed and breakfast and including a three course meal with glass of wine on the final evening. Check in was very quick however asking if it was possible for a candle in my boyfriends dessert for his birthday if they had one, I was told I would need to provide it myself, how exactly I was supposed to leave the hotel and head to sainsburys without him knowing I have no idea especially as we came in his car. Our room which we had booked which was room 128 was lovely, warm and homely with a selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Dinner was lovley the steak I had was cooked just right, we also loved the Japanese twist to the hotel. Maybe an idea to stock the Chapel Down Wines as there wasnt any english wines on the menu.

Room Tip: Room 128 overlooked a court yard so was very quiet

Thank you for your kind comments, I am sorry that we were unable to provide you with a birthday candle, I am sure that we could have tried a little bit harder to assist you with this. We look forward to welcoming you again possibly on your birthday :)

The room was not at all like the pictures shown on the website.
The service at breakfast was rather slow and the cooked breakfast was not replenished frequently enough, leaving guests standing around waiting for food. Overall it was disappointing.

Thank you for the information, there are various type & styles of bedrooms throughout the Hotel and try to show as many as possible on our website, the breakfast buffet is replenished throughout the morning to keep the quality as high as possible, unfortunately there are sometimes delays but we believe that our guests are more appreciative of good quality and are prepared to wait for this, however I understand your comments and will look at this with the Restaurant and Kitchen staff.

We stayed at the hotel on a " secret escapes" deal, excellent value for money. We had a minor problem at check in, there was no record of our booking, the receptionist thought that the booking had gone through to junk mail which obviously needs to be sorted out for future bookings. However it was all sorted very quickly and we were checked in our room within 20 mins. The room was spacious and very clean as was the rest of the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The deal included a 3 course meal, Japanese or English, we chose the Japanese menu which was very good but if I'am honest not to my palette, but that's a matter of taste, it certainly went down well with all the other diners, our waitress was very good when we questioned her about the menu, she really knew her stuff, a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice and again the staff were very attentive. A very enjoyable stay, We would stay again and highly recommend it to others.

Not for me. Too far out of Swindon with a strange English meets Japanese menu combination - perhaps on account of its proximity to the Honda Factory.

Functional but the Nothing enchanting about it.

Decent room though (although the TV did not have a clear picture).

Booked a 3 night B&B package through Amazon at a very good price so was not expecting too much, but was very surprised at the quality of the hotel, service from the staff, food in the restaurant and the walks available from the hotel gardens into the surrounding woodland.
Did not get the room upgrade several other reviewers mentioned but did not really need one as the double room was spacious, clean and very good quality. Breakfast choice was a bit limited but the quality was excellent and service very good. Ate in the restaurant one evening and the steak I had was superb. Definitely recommended!!

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday after booking through secret escapes.
The main building and the grounds are lovely. We were upgraded to the Swan room which was lovely with a four poster bed and a large balcony.
We ate in the rosemary restaurant and the food was okay but nothing special. Breakfast really let the hotel down, it was Buffett style and looked very unappealing after being left out for hours . There were not a lot of guests staying over and we felt it should have been freshly cooked to order.
The staff could do with training, check in and check out was far too quick and no engagement with the guests.
If they just improved customer service and the breakfast quality I think they could get to four stars.

Stayed here for one night. Booked through secret escapes to include evening meal and breakfast.
Hotel is lovely and in a gorgeous location - easy to get to from the M4. Stunning grounds.

On check in we were upgraded to one of the four poster bridal suites - a very pleasant surprise. The room was lovely, very spacious, clean, with its own stone balcony/terrace. There was a fridge in the room with complimentary Budweiser, orange juice and waters (2 of each) and a huge tv - limited channels.

Evening meal is served 6:30-9:30; we ate from the Japanese menu (AYCE) - an English menu is available. We had pre-paid for a three course meal. The starters didn't look that appetising but they were actually very tasty. Lots to choose from. My husband was very impressed with the sushi chef and sampled a huge range of freshly made sushi pieces.
The main course was good; you order various dishes from the menu and each is cooked to order as you order them. This course was delicious although was a little bit disappointed that we were told we had to order from the main course options as the kitchen was closing. We'd only been in the restaurant 30 minutes and so felt a little rushed here. Also, because the kitchen had closed, we were unable to order dessert.

Breakfast is served from 6:30-9:30 and included items to suit Japanese, English and continental tastes. Full English breakfast items, cereals, toast, fruit, juices, cheeses, croissants, rolls are all available as part of a self service buffet. It would seem, the later you leave it, the less busy the restaurant is.

Staff at the hotel are very pleasant and go out of their way to help/accommodate you. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for you comments, which are much appreciated and acted upon. I am sorry that you were not able to completely enjoy the Japanese AYCE buffet as the kitchen was closing, I will talk to the Chefs and Restaurant staff to make sure that all of our customers are able to finish and enjoy their meals without feeling rushed. On the positive side we have found that our customers really enjoy seeing their Sushi being prepared to order and we look forward to seeing you again.
