“Rosemary - always good”
Reviewed 16 April 2010

I regularly visit the restaurant and food is always lovely with exceptionally fresh sashimi - you can't ask for a better quality; the service is always friendly and prices are low; great value :-)

Souless place - the hotel has missed so much by not taking advantage of their setting.

Food is not good - restaurant is more like eating in a school hall!!
It is clean but far from enjoyable - worst is the sound proofing between bathrooms is very poor. If this is the standard Japanese enjoy I will not be taking a trip to Japan!

I really liked this hotel. I thought it was well presented and interesting and the grounds were lovely. We had a nice room with a decent view and a sense of grandeur of another era which was a lovely touch. The bathroom was fine with a nice bath and the room was well presented and clean. The food was ok and the glass conservatory is a great place for afternoon tea - its very relaxing. If you like a stroll around the grounds then you'll enjoy this place but in January it was a bit chilly! I thought it was quite good value at half the price of the London hotel we'd stayed in the previous night. Totally recommended if you have to stay in Swindon. Friendly staff are an obvious bonus.

We were impressed by this hotel. Very beautiful grounds and building. Rooms a bit characterless but very clean and comfortable. Our food was very good, both the evening meal and breakfast. Considering we paid around £60 a night this was good value.

this has to be one of the nicest places i have stayed. we had the superior room with four poster and it was perfect in every way. stunning views and immaculate presentation make this a great place to get away from it all.
the location feels remote with beautiful park lands all around but the town center is only 15 mins by car.
staff are all very polite and unintrusive.........oh and the telly worked perfectly despite other reviews complaining that they had fuzzy picture. will be going back soon

We stayed at the Stanton House Hotel after our wedding in November 2008. We hunted high and low for a venue and settled on this Hotel following the recommendation of friends and after our very first visit.
The hotel is a beautiful Cotswold stone building with a large extension that blends in well with the rest of the hotel and makes for some lovely photos. I understand that the hotel is owned by Honda and as such there is a Japanese theme in some areas. Having said that, the Japanese know a thing or two about perfection and that is evident throughout.
The staff are amongst the most attentive people we have ever come across, they really couldn't do enough for us. Our wedding planner was always on hand and on the day itself the waiters, bar staff and reception staff were brilliant.
The food in the hotel varies between a Japanese menu and a European one, both are equally excellent although for an evening meal I would recommend going for the Japanese. The wine list is fairly short, however the choice is good and the house wines are excellent.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout. There is a hint of things being slightly too modern for my liking, but I am just being fussy. The only downside is the lack of fitness facilities, spa and pool.
Bedrooms on the whole seem rather basic and could do with a bit of re-decoration. However if you have the cash, I would upgrade to one of their suites as these are excellent and probably better than many 5* hotels we've stayed in.
The hotel is well located for beautiful walks in the country. It is about a mile from the small town of Highworth and within a lovely village called Stanton Fitzwarren. If you have a car you are about 5 miles from Lechlade and 15 miles from Burford. Both lovely Cotswold towns. There is also a large nature reserve next to the hotel which is gorgeous and the hotel itself has beautiful grounds.
I really cannot sing the praises of this hotel enough, you really must visit and if you are planning a wedding, this hotel is head and shoulders above anywhere else in the area.

I stayed here on business purpose and upon arriving thought it looked very nice, quite impressive for 3*. However upon checking in and seeing the room I found this not to be the case with mouldy shower curtains, yellow stained toilet seat and tiny low lit room! The TV had very poor signal and on asking they told me there was nothing they could do. Staffs were friendly and the free wireless internet was a good touch.
This could be a really good place, but currently there is just nothing to do, and the room’s need a bit of money spent on them just to make it feel better.
OK for 1 night but no more.
