“Conference”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

Stayed here with five friends while attending a conference. We had booked three twin rooms but only two were available but when we explained that a double with a child bed was not suitable we were offered another double room at no extra charge.

The rooms were fine, although I found the bed a little hard, and were very clean. The food at breakfast, in the bar and dinner in the restaurant were all fine.

What makes this hotel stand out is the staff. Every member of staff I encountered was helpful, friendly, efficient and professional. The breakfast service was very busy as most guests seemed to be attending the conference and, consequently, wanted breakfast at the same time but what could have been a chaotic experience was handled extremely efficiently.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Telford area. It is a little far out from the Conference Centre especially as the traffic in Telford is so bad but is well situated for walks on The Wrekin and other tourist attractions.

We stayed for three nights, on a deal which included one dinner and one bottle of house wine, as well as breakfast every morning.

On arrival, we were stunned by how perfect the location is - in one minute you can be climbing hiulls and exploring woods, in two minutes you can be strolling round a frogful pond, after driving for fifteen minutes you be enjoying the many fascinating industrial revolution museums, including Blists Hill Victorian Town.

We were surprised and delighted by how spacious our room was. There was a comfortable seating area, as well as lots of uncluttered space. Unfortunately, the bed was very hard, and also made up in a slightly peculiar, uncomfortable way. There was what seemed to be a very handy mirror with shelf below and light above - perfect for make-up, I thought. But the light didn't work. I left a note about it, and got the reply "Light is not currently in use". But everything else worked fine.

We are vegetarians, and were disappointed to see that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu. And this was something one of us didn't like. However, when we told the waiter, he went away and came back offering us a selection of other dishes. Our choices were tasty, so we returned another evening and were again offered off-menu dishes. (The vegetable stroganoff was delicious.) I don't understand why they don't put one or two of these dishes on the menu, then vegetarians wouldn't be put off.

There is a gym, which I would have loved to have used, but I'd forgotten there was one, so didn't have suitable clothes/trainers with me.

The bar is comfortable to sit in. There's plenty of parking. Wifi is fine. And, have I already said, the location is perfect! I'd love to go again.

Dear Boraxwoman,

Thank you for your positive review. Whilst we do not have a separate vegetarian menu, and admittedly our printed offering is limited, our chef is always happy to discuss any specific requirements and cater accordingly.

Our housekeeping staff do like their ‘hospital corners’ when making up the beds and I usually find a quick ‘poke’ with my foot whilst in bed releases the tension!

Dear Caroline,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and also to recognise the extra mile our front of house team go. Whilst there should not of been a problem in the first place it is often the way said problem is handled which impacts on us all the most.

5 stars! Thank you!

We had a 3 day break in the hotel. We had a free room upgrade from the lovely receptionist. The hotel is beautifully clean, well run and it was a pleasure to stay there. We will definitely go back. The bar meal menu is a little limited but the food was well cooked and presented. Thought the house wine was a bit pricey £15.50 a bottle for Spanish plonk but it was served in a bucket of ice!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Buckatree with the Jaguar Drivers Club. This is a very genuine, comfortable unpretencious hotel. The food was good, we had our own spacious room for all our meals and the service was first class. No complaints whatever, I think that we will be back next year

Room Tip: Some rooms are down a flight of steps from reception, if you are not very mobile choose one on an up...

We have just returned home from a 3 night stay in this hidden away hotel, we were warmly greeted on arrival and found all the staff to be very friendly, our room (109) was really nice, very clean and had everything we needed. The location at the foot of the Wrekin is perfect for long walks and close enough to major road network to visit everywhere in the shropshire countryside, we look forward to returning

Room Tip: Room 109 has a sofa under the velux window for a nice place to read a book
