“Great location, great beers but noisy.”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Had a mix up with our booking but the team at the Shakespeare were very helpful and managed to arrange an alternative for our first night away.Very well placed for all the museum attractions in the Iron bridge gorge. Nearly all of them are within a mile or so and are easily walkable. There is a fairly busy road outside the Inn but this did not cause any disruption to our sleep. However there is a problem with the noise in room 2, not sure if its the boiler or the water system but there is a cacophony of the sound of water late at night and around 7am in the morning. There is a good choice of breakfasts in the morning and we both had the continental breakfast which was delicious. We reserved a seat for dinner on the Saturday night and I am glad we did as the restuarant was very busy. The menu has plenty of choice and there are daily specials but be warned the portions are huge, the meals are lovely but there is just too much and you feel for the Chef as you cannot finish and I doubt he ever see's a clean plate! Excellent choice of real ales and they are well kept so well worth trying. Staff were all helpful and friendly, the rooms are clean and well presented, all in all a lovely place to stay and hopefully they will solve the problem in room 2.

Very good stop off close toTelford. We enjoyed the walk in to town to look at the bridge which wasn't very far away. Had an excellent meal in the restaurant which was very busy so recommend reserving a place. The room(Nr.2) was lovely but very noisy. The landlord assured us this would be seen to. We particularly enjoyed our continental breakfast...best ever! We would love to go again but possibly not room 2.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 2 unless as mentioned above the noisiness has been seen to

I stayed in this Inn this week and was amazed at the service, cleanliness and overall consideration to detail. The proprietors had thought of everything and had not scrimped on quality either. I would recommend to anyone and intend to go back there very soon with the family.

We stayed here in April for a couple of nights in a comfortable, well-equipped room. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and there was a nice buzz about the place on the Saturday night. The inn served good quality pub food (with a good choice for vegetarians), although portions are ridiculously big! A great location for Ironbridge museums. We did not find the room noisy at night, despite staying over on the Saturday, and the sleep quality was excellent. I left feeling refreshed and cheered.

Had a great weekend in this little Inn near Ironbridge. Our ensuite room (no.2) was nicely furnished & comfortable with plenty of tea/coffee & biscuits. The ensuite was clean & functional & the shower was lovely!
We ate in the Inn for the first night, both having steak & it was first class. The second night we ate there again because the two people we asked 'where is the best place to eat locally?' Said 'Shakespeare Inn' !
I had sizzler beef in plum sauce- fabulous & enough to feed two. My husband had trout In almond sauce & thought it was really special.
The hosts were very friendly & the cooked breakfasts both mornings were spot on.
All in all, a great stay at a great price. We will return for sure.

A great location for visiting the Ironbridge Gorge - perfect for parking up, leaving the car and touring the sights on foot. The round trip walk up to Ironbridge via Jackfield was just the right distance for us. On returning for dinner, the generous portions in the restaurant were just what we needed, tho as others have mentioned, possibly too generous! The room was fine, including sitting area with table and two chairs - something often missing in budget-priced rooms. Access to the rooms is a little steep so some might find it challenging. After such a big dinner a Continental breakfast and coffee was all we needed to fire us up for another day - the Inn is ideally placed with a footpath right outside leading up to the Blists Hill Village.
There is certainly nothing missing that I'd expect at this price point.
A great location and I'll probably be looking no further when I return to Ironbridge to enjoy my the museum annual pass I bought on this trip.

Stumbled upon this lovely pub, stopped to have lunch. Not very busy but not a problem. Very happy to see the sign on the door saying no dogs allowed, I do not like to see dogs in a pub that is serving food. 5 Mins later one of the locals (Nigel) brings in his dog and that is acceptable. Needless to say we didnt stay to have lunch.
