“This is not a hotel”

This may be a great place for playing golf but I can assure you it is not a hotel......Reception was closed when I arrived at 7.30pm...the dinner was really disgusting, the glass of wine I was served was like vinegar....you need to be fitting fit just to get around the place..there are endless stairs...the shower was either FREEZING or BOILING so impossible to have one...practically impossible to find the reception the next morning as nothing is sign-posted...no internet connection in the room.....I fully accept that this is probably a great golf course but they should remove HOTEL from their name!!!

My wife, 14 month old daughter & I wanted a couple of days peace & quiet after a busy family Christmas & New Year so at very short notice booked two nights at the start of January in one of the lodges.

We were very impressed with our lodge – spotless throughout with lots of those little touches you would normally expect of a four star hotel rather than a self catering apartment (maybe I haven’t stayed in too many quality self catering places before!!!) - slippers, toiletries, thermostat in each room, tea & coffee. All complete with a lovely wooded view over the 7th fairway

The manager, Johnny, was extremely friendly & made us feel very welcome and even agreed an extension on the last morning to allow our little girlie to have her mid morning snooze rather than bundle us out by the obligatory 10am.

We didn’t use the health spa or any of the other hotel facilities on site as we only stayed for two nights so can’t comment. As a stand alone self catering lodge we thought it was excellent and would certainly consider going there again.

Room Tip: The way the lodges are staggeered, the front three lodges & the furthest one at the back have th...

Stayed here for one night. Had dinner in the bar. Lovely friendly bar staff and acceptable food. Unfortunately the room (room 19) was a huge disappointment. Cottesmore urgently need to review their cleaning standards because they are well below par. Whiskers from a previous male guest remained in the toiletry basket and around the sink. Few hairs in the bath. Carpet in need of a good hoover and clean. Didn't make hot drink as kettle was very grubby. Another guest also commented about the state of her room and bins not being emptied etc, so clearly this isn't a one-off! What really annoyed me though was that when I checked out I was immediately presented with the bill and the receptionist didn't even bother to ask if I'd enjoyed my stay. At this point, I then brought to her attnetion the lack of cleanliness in the room and she said that although it wasn't an excuse, they had been very busy and a deep clean would take place soon!! No sincere apologies and neither did she ask me if there was something she could do to atleast turn my frustration and bad experience into a better one. Really disappointing.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 8 and 19!!

I took 9 of my golfing customers to this hotel and played 18 holes of golf on a very rainy friday afternoon, followed by a very enjoyable night at the hotel, then another 18 holes of golf the following day. The first course we played was the Griffin course, the longer of the 2 courses at Cottesmore, and the weather was utterly foul, constant rain for the 4 hours of the game, and the course was pretty waterlogged and suffering, but was still a very attractive venue and as my party of players were of mixed ability, it was challenging enough for the better players, but playable for the newer golfers.
That evening we were treated to a 3 course dinner which was lovely, and the staff serving it were very friendly, what more can you ask. Later that evening, we continued into the bar and although the staff would I know have far rather we didn't stay as late as we did, they were gracious and courteous and left us to our own devises and didn't hurry us out the bar.
The breakfast the next morning was delayed considerably due to a major golf competition being served, but after the initial frustration, the manageress, who was excellent, placated the situation and salvaged the morning.
The second round of golf was lovely, the Phoenix course is much shorter which appealed to the newer golfers, but again it was still fun for the better golfers to play, although due to the rain, many of the fairways were laughably under water. I would definitely say that this is a summer course, the drainage, particularly of the Phoenix course is patchy at best.
I would also mention the company that I booked the trip through, Your Golf Travel, not only got an amazing price for the weekend, but are extremely professional in their dealings and made sure everything was booked correctly, I have used them for other weekend get aways and Portugal trips and I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.

Room Tip: If booking a single room, ask for a double bed as one of my party who is reasonably tall was falling...

We would like to share a delightful and most enjoyable experience. Our stay has surpassed all expectation. These words are sincerely meant to express our thanks and appreciation to all concerned, for the enhancement of a wonderful golf break. The warmest of welcomes, utmost courtesy and endearing kindness throughout our stay was outstanding.Well situated, pleasant accomodation, quality catering and great facilities,in addition to two very good courses. We extend our thanks to not only the hotel and professional golf shop, but also the greens staff;one of them indeed finding us on the Pheonix course to return a club we had inadvertently left on a previous hole. We have already booked for 2013 and looking forward to it.Well done Cottesmore. Most certainly recommended.

Just had a great weekend away at Cottesmore golf and country club. There were 14 ladies and we stayed Friday and Saturday evening - the deal included 2 rounds of golf on different courses, dinner on the Saturday and breakfast Saturday and Sunday. We were made to feel very welcome by all staff. Rooms were very pleasant and the food was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed a freshly cooked breakfast with a good choice of hot food - much better than stale food sat under hot lights to keep warm. The leisure facilities were very good - loved the steam, sauna, pool and jacuzzi - just what we needed after 18 holes. The bar was a pleasant and friendly atmosphere and the reception staff bent over backwards to meet our needs - pleasing 14 ladies is not easy and most of us were more than satisfied and will hope to return if the price is right and the tee off times offered for the weekend break fit with our needs.

Room Tip: First floor in the courtyard with balconies overlooking the 1st and 10th tee are lovely. All are ve...

We have just returned from Cottesmore for the second year running, for a golf weekend with 14 lady golfers. Firstly, we were looked after exceptionally, especially from Lorraine, the hotel Manager, who catered for all our needs from start to finish. Our rooms were great and we were made to feel very comfortable. The hotel is very relaxed and small, which gives a cosy, friendly atmosphere. Golf was good, although very wet and a lot of laughs were had. I would definitely recommend this hotel for large or small parties and we are already talking about returning next year

Room Tip: Some of the rooms upstairs have the added bonus of a balcony looking over the golf course
