“A peacefull break”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Judging from other guests' reviews, I think there is some variability in the standar of rooms at the Cottesmore Gold & Country Club. It looked like our room (Number 1) had been recently redecorated and we could hardly fault it. It was by no means luxurious, but it was modern, clean and functional. The bed was very comfortable (perhaps a little too soft?) and the linen smelled freshly laundered. The room had a great view across the golf course and into the woods, with rabbits and deer roaming about. We really only had minor complaints:

- We were given no information at all about hotel facilities, not even a folder or simple info sheet in the room. When we mentioned this, the Manager did apologise for the oversight. The room folders were in the process of being reprinted.

- The bathroom floor was sprinked with white dust. It turned out that the plumbers had just fixed a problem but somebody hadn't checked that the room had been cleaned alfetrwards. An oversight.

- I thought the bath towels were on the small size but that's just a personal thing and certainly not a major criticism! Similarly, I really do not like feature, stand-alone baths. They may look nice but are just not practical; I far prefer a shower. So, not only was it not possible to shower, but there was no shelf at bath rim height for soap, shampoo etc.

The pool was great. The breakfast very enjoyable (though we really did not know what times it was served to). Apparently, it may only be served until 9am, which I think is a little early for a leisure hotel at the weekend. We turned up just after 9 and had no problem getting a full cooked breakfast.

May be going again in a couple of weeks time so will check that the room folders are up-to-date!!

Room Tip: Room 1 (family room) is so peacefull.

The hotel is best described as average in terms if the accommodation. The rooms are at best adequate but clean. The bathrooms are in need of an upgrade, they are tired and have seen better days. Having said that as a golf venue the rooms are only really somewhere to sleep so in that context they are ok.

The restaurant so much better than the accommodation, and well priced we were not disappointed by the meals and this includes breakfast too. Great portions well presented and excellent value for money.

There are 2 courses the Griffin and the Phoenix the griffin is by far the better of the 2 I have played it 3 times and found it wholly enjoyable. The Phoenix is ok for a change but not so much of a challenge and the greens when we played were not too good.

The staff in the hotel were very helpful, the leisure complex is small but offers all the basic amenities at a good standard.

Over all off a weekend golf I would definitely be returning in the near future as I strongly feel it offers great valued for money the only real minus point is the standard of the rooms

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your visit. Many of our rooms are in need of a refurbishment especially the bathrooms and we are fixing them up one by one. We have recently returned to the Rogerson family fold and are committed to upgrading the grounds and buildings after a period of neglect. The bar and leisure area has undergone a facelift and we are committed to improving the building as a whole with the addition of a health and beauty spa due to open next week. Our Griffin golf course is at its best at the moment and we are now turning our attention to the Phoenix course with exciting plans for improvement there. Thank you for your kind comments about the service and the food and I hope to see you again.

Decided to stay near to gatwick. Lovely welcome from the reception team. The room is a little dated but as they explained when we checked in rooms are being refurbished. Most importantly it clean, the bed is very comfortable with a lovely duvet. Good tv and enough room information to get you by. Popped into the bar, again a nice welcome and a lovely crisp pint of doom bar! Wouldn't hesitate recommending this hotel.

Super! A great time had by 22 Golfers from Eltham Warren. Played on Griffin course and the first 3 holes set you up for a real treat. Perfect fairways, perfect greens, perfect bunkers. Well drained. Greens run so true which does make them a real test. Some of the views around this course are simply spectacular, you couldn't possibly wish for a better golf course in my opinion, quite simply stunning.....Hotel staff were all very friendly and the food was great......Good time had by all...

Had a single room with smallest bed in the universe. Not yet updated so so very tired decor with view of brick wall. Food ok with decent portions at reasonable prices. Had a curry one night which was damm hot, breakfast good. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. The merge of golf and health spa booking is not without its drawbacks but sure they will sort it out. The griffin is a really good course with excellent holes but the phoenix is a let down with holes 4 to 12 squeezed into old farmland. The greens are quick on both courses

Booked a golf break here with 3 friends. The golf course is lovely, very interesting and challenging. The hotel was disappointing. Bathroom was cold and rather antiquated. The room although clean needed some updating. The hotel breakfast was adequate but quite limited - good selection of freshly cooked food but lacking fresh fruit. We ate our evening meal in the lounge bar which also doubled as the golf clubhouse. The menu was fairly limited and basic golf club food .
