“Functional accommodation near Gatwick airport”
Reviewed 4 June 2013

Stayed here quite a few times over the years; its conveniently situated next to the Gatwick Airport (10 minute walk) and there is also a shuttle-bus (few £s).

Got a nice warm welcome upon arrival and the chap who checked me in was friendly and helpful.

My room was at the edge of the building and was almost triangular in shape; it was an Executive Upgrade room apparently. It was comfortable with sofa bed, comfy chair, King size bed and a wardrobe. It also featured an automatic coffee maker which did produce nice coffee but had a tendency to leak if it hadn't been sealed correctly. It was light and airy and the a/c worked well.

The arrival gift of "premium nuts" turned out to be a small packet of KP peanuts ;-)

There was a full-service restaurant but very few vegetarian options. Prices for room-service were as you might expect from an airport hotel. A bottle of the Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc (NZ) was approx. £25 with the grilled 8oz Sirloin Steak approx. £20. Only vegetarian option was the cheese pizza :-(( at £10.95.

Likes:
+ Warm reception upon arrival
+ Air conditioned rooms
+ Short walk to airport terminal
+ Full service restaurant

Dislikes:
- Very, very, very slow internet speeds (almost unusable on the day)
- The automatic coffee machine in the room (tendency to leak everywhere if not sealed properly)
- Not many vegetarian meal options
- Cluttered desk featuring large screen TV, automatic coffee maker, telephone, electric kettle tray and supplies, and desk lamp.

Room Tip: Found the 4th floor to be quiet.

As leaving on an early flight I stayed here. Train out from London. A casual walk from the airport station. The suttle costs 3 pounds. Cant see why its not free. So close. On filling out the registration, already room had been pre paid and as they did have my credit card details I was told that I did not need to present card. The check in Clerk noted that I did not have an English home address. This therefore means 'Sir you must let me have a copy of your passport'. Because I am not English I have to produce a passport I asked. Reply 'yes'.This is totally unacceptible. No other hotel has asked me to do this in England. 'We have to because of security and being in airport grounds'. Then why do not the English have to show their ID. Discrimination. If its a security risk then how is it that anybody can just walk into the North terminal from Crawley without going through security. Humm. The clerk was not English either just to rub more salt into the wound.
Room, the usual to be expected. One night only.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel: your feedback is very valuable to us.

The shuttle service (chargeable) is operated by an external company. They operate buses for all hotels in this area and run a service between the hotel and the terminals from 04.03 am till 23.43 hrs 7 days a week - 23.43 hrs being the last bus from the hotel. The last bus from South terminal is at 23.45 hrs and the last bus from North terminal is at 23.55 hrs every day.

Considering our location being next to the airport, there are certain security steps which are included in our check-in process. These steps are required by the UK Immigration (Hotel Records) Order 1972. This includes asking for proof of a guests’ full name and nationality and record this data in safekeeping for 12 months. We appreciate that for some guests this can cause inconvenience and thank in advance for your full cooperation in this matter.

We thank you again for choosing to stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The hotel is within walking distance from the South terminal. Price was reasonable and the hotel was quiet. Good restaurant and bar. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were well informed and very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for the third or fourth floor as they are quieter.

We stayed for one night prior to a long-haul departure. Check-in was quick and efficient, staff polite, professional and attentive. Our room was clean and comfortable, the bed large and very comfortable, the bathroom spic and span and well equipped.

A bar meal of two burgers, a beer and a glass of wine was tasty but expensive (£35), however I suppose that's to be expected.

Breakfast was excellent - a good choice to suit most tastes.

Check-out was quick.

Overall a pleasant stay and a great start to our holiday.

This hotel is great value for money. It is ideal for people with early departures. The service is good, food is ok, rooms more than adequate, and the parking deals are fab. I use the meet & greet and it works very well.

We booked one night and parking before our flight. It is 10 minutes walk to the terminal. Staff were friendly. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Value including 11 days parking was excellent. I would book again.

This inexpensive hotel is located a 5-10 minute walk from the ground floor exits of the South Terminal. However it is hard to find at night - just keep following the signs however unlikely looking the route; it feels like you'll end up on the motorway or something! Even when you think you've reached the hotel you must keep following the arrows (which take you right round the hotel to the entrance on the other side).

The receptionist's English was hard to understand, but he was friendly.

My room had lurid decor - a lime green lampshade and net curtains, and headache-inducing swirly yellow-patterned carpet - which was hard to date (1980s?) but fine. There was no view - basically the window faced a white wall - but then you don't visit an airport hotel for the views.

The bathroom was very good - modern and upmarket, with a bowl-style sink, large showerhead rose, fancy lighting, etc. The mirror was also heated to remove steam (I've never seen this even in a luxury hotel before). However, no flannel was provided! (a personal bugbear of mine).

The bed was good and firm.

There was air conditioning, though it was fairly noisy, and couldn't be completely switched off (though you could adjust the temperature until it went into standby).

Given the low price of the room I'd say overall this was excellent value, particularly the bathroom. The main downside is the walk from the terminal.
