I stayed here for one night with my 17 year old son, prior to a University visit at Sussex. We needed a room that was comfortable, relatively cheap and clean and had two seperate beds. Initially everything was as expected at a Holiday Inn Express and things went pretty smoothly.
The second bed in the room was a bed settee, which wasn't made up when we arrived. Despite our best efforts we were unable to get the bed to convert into a settee. We went to reception to request assistance.
After a long wait, one of just two staff who were working that evening tried to pull the bed out, failed and then basically said there was nothing she could do about it and left. After a huge amount of struggling we eventually managed to get the bed out. Pretty unimpressed with the service we received.
Hopefully a one off - but Holiday Inns may need to think a little more about their training and possibly staffing levels at a busy airport hotel.

Well, as everybody else we had an early flight leaving from Gatwick and decided to stay at the HI Express as we got a very good price and reviews for this hotel were ok. We were looking for a clean room with a decent bed, that's about it. To be honest the room was not very clean (sofa + chair full of stains, hair in bathroom, dirty toilet) and the bed was so soft that backache is guaranteed. Also you would hear doors banging on the corridor and noises from other rooms as the walls are very thin.

The whole furniture seemed to be from the 1980's, I assume the hotel isn't a pupose built HI Express but used to belong to another hotel chain before (?). As has been pointed out before the breakfast room and especially the buffet is far too small, we had to wait some time for a table and had to run after staff in order to get the table cleaned (there should be additional staff for breakfast as they can't cope with the amount of people).

On the positive side, staff was very friendly, location is great with a 24hr Tesco nearby and rooms are rather cheap, however I would rather pay more to get a decent bed + a clean room.

I'd regard this as being a "cheap and cheerful" HIE. It's stuck in the middle of a 'squareabout' right next to a Harvester Restaurant. No frills, but perfectly acceptable with excellent access to Gatwick Airport and also the Sussex Coast.

Booked this for £39 including breakfast for 2 of us,definetely value for money. Check in was quick, room modern and clean,no noise from airport. Breakfast was self service and a fairly good choice of hot and cold food, harvester restaurant next door and Crawley town centre close by. Would recommend staying here if you can get it cheap like we did.

Have stayed at the HIExpress Crawley on several occasions now. If you're looking for a quiet night's sleep just a few minutes from the airport, with clean rooms and breakfast at a very reasonable price, then this is the perfect place to stay.
Only 15 minutes from the airport it's close enough to be convenient but far enough away not to be too noisy.
If you have your own transport, and if you don't need absolute luxury, this place can't be beaten.
