“Never Again”
Reviewed 1 February 2014

Stayed one night before flying on holiday in January,After checking in we found the bedroom very cold and the windows were not shutting very well, adjusted the radiator thermostat and waited for heat, which never arrived, informed by reception that the heating is not turned on until 5pm(what never heard of such a thing).Decided to go for a swim to get warm, but on arrival at the pool we were asked to pay £4.00,so we declined. we then went for a drink at the bar,but found it unpleasant to enjoy our drinks whilst wearing overcoats to keep out the cold.Ready for a good nights sleep we found that you will not get one here awful old sagging matressess will make sure of that frankly hotel is only good to park your car. The Brittania group seriously need to look at upgrading this hotel

Booked a 1 Night stay plus car parking for a week through Thomas Cook. Parts of the car park were taped off. Walked into Hotel, First thought, bit grim and dark, went to check in, Receptionist pleasant and quite helpful. booked and paid for dinner prior to going to room which was down the longest corridor I have ever trodden.
Room smelt funny, damp on the walls, dark and quite depressing. Didn't like the room, my wife hated it, tramped back to reception down the long corridor to complain, receptionist was apologetic and offered us another "better" room. The new room was just as bad, if not worse, there was a stain on the sheets, could have been blood. Mold above the window, our friends room smelt horrible and the wall paper was badly worn. Our conclusion, "We're not staying here". back to reception, receptionist apolgetic once more. Asked to speak to the manager, unfortunately (or fortunately for him/her) they were busy. Finally spoke to another member of staff who was as useful as a Chocolate Teapot, with a real "don't care attitude". Back to reception, cancelled dinner and room/parking (on the day before we were flying out on Holiday). Not happy !! Fortunately found a terrific little hotel with the same parking facilities slightly more expensive but with free transfers. ended up having a great night before we set of on our Hols. Thomas Cook refunded the complete cost for the Europa Hotel.

Oh dear, where do I start? I've stayed here many times, but I won't again as this time was just awful!
Check in was very slow by surly, unhappy staff, who didn't even ask if I wanted to book seats on the bus for the airport in the morning!
The room, wallpaper feeling off, stains on the carpets, the veneer on the bathroom door was peeling off, room also very noisy and freezing!
I'd booked for us to have a meal in the restaurant, I wish I hadn't! The salad was so dry it had obviously been there for hours, the carvery was luke warm, dried up and had also been out too long! And to top it off the bus was late in the morning!!
Come on Gatwick Europa! This used to be such a good hotel, spend some money Britannia Hotels and bring this hotel to where it should be!!!

OK, first of all I must explain that we used the hotel for an overnight 'stop' before an early morning flight from Gatwick. With the included weeks parking at the hotel and the cheap bus transfers to and from the hotel it was a great price and the best that I could find at the time (though I later found out a friend got an even better deal at a Premier Inn with a meet and greet service upon return to the airport, but that was a special offer). So in reality we used it as a place to put our heads down for a few hours and park the car for a week, we weren't going to use the facilities and to be honest didn't really need much at all.
We arrived at the hotel until about 9.30pm and had to leave at 4.30am so it was a case of getting in the room, getting the kids to sleep and getting our heads down..... simple!
Upon arrival a large party in front of us seemed to be having some issues at the reception desk so we had to queue for a while, I don’t know what the issues were both parties seemed to be getting somewhat animated, maybe the reception staff weren’t understanding, I don’t know, but they didn’t appear to be dealing with it particularly well….. and they seemed to be ignorant of the fact that a queue was growing…..
Finally we got to the front. I had booked on their own website some weeks in advance and had paid in full, yet according to their system I still ‘owed’ £2.50 or so, I explained that I paid all that I was asked to pay and didn’t have the option of deducting £2.50! Eventually I refused to pay and they said that they would deduct it from my card in the morning…..
We booked in as a party of 5, three adults in a family room and this was confirmed at Reception. When we got to our room there were two beds pushed together as a double and a pair of bunk beds, no fifth bed. We called Reception who explained it was a fold up bed in the wardrobe…. a shame they didn’t think to tell us that beforehand! And of course they were right, there was a bed there and we got it out and opened it up, but no sheets. Another call and someone was sent up with some sheets, the mattress on the fold up bed was awful, to say it had a ‘dip’ in the middle would somewhat understating the problem, but the young guy turned it over and it was certainly much better and as it was for our 6 year old it would do.
Overall it was cheap, the reception staff were lousy, inattentive, unable to understand guest needs etc and just very poor……. they really were in the wrong job! The young dark haired lad who came to the room with sheets and to try and sort the bed, fantastic, helpful, smiley and willing to do all that he could to help – they should put him on Reception!
If it’s cheap that you want and you accept that it won’t be good and things might not go smoothly then it’s OK…. Otherwise try and find a better deal elsewhere!

We stayed here on the 5th January 2014 before our flight. We were given room on ground floor. The room was very tired and in need of redecorating. But it had every thing you needed so we were quite happy until the cold set in. It was freezing in the bar and our room. I asked the reception if there was something wrong with the heating in our room and was told that the do not put heating on until 5pm every day. As it was only 3.30pm we had to wait until near on 6.30 before we. Could feel comfort lay warm. Then the heating was on nearly most of the night. The bed had dip in the middle so we rolled into the middle which was quite uncomfortable. Glad to leave. Unfortunately we are returning after our flight back to England for another night stay before our onward journey home. We land at approx. 8pm so we can expect to be warm. I wonder if the breakfast is better than the evening meal which we cancelled after looking at the car very the night we stayed. We ended up with a refund and went for an Indian. Fingers crossed it might be better if not Indian here we come.

Room Tip: Get one after 5pm if travelling during the winter

Went to a business seminar which ended slightly early so I decided to use their facilities as I had taken the day off. Went to the healt spa suite which was very nice although the pool is a little short but adequate to swim in. Nice to have a pool than not. Have not spent a night here but it is very close to Gatwick and is also close to a Junction of the A23/M23 which wold make it a good bet. We had a buffet lunch provided by the hotel which was perfectly nice for finger food. Nice loos.
