“Not a good place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

I have stayed in Britannia hotels up north before now and understand they are not the greatest hotels but my god this one took me by surprise. I know it was cheaper than most Gatwick hotels but even at £57 for the night i would expect a bit more. I was put in an annexe room which smelt musty, the curtains didn't have enough curtain rings, they are obviously lacking saucers as one cup had a saucer and the other had a side plate, acting as a saucer and the wiring all on display for the TV.
Left there not feeling like i had just showered.
As mentioned in other reviews this hotel needs a total makeover.
Will not be visiting again.

Room Tip: If the rooms are all the same there are no good rooms.

Stayed here before an early flight and yes the hotel is dated and in need of a make over but for the price we paid was more than sufficient for the time we were there. Didn't come across rude staff and the meal in the restaurant was adequate and edible. If you want luxury put your hand deeper in your pocket and stay at one of the airport hotels (Hilton or Sofitel) otherwise stop moaning and get a life we will stay there again if we have an early flight with out question

We stayed with a coach party for three nights for a good price which included breakfasts and evening meals. Our room was a good size but the twin beds seemed rather small. If you roll over in the night there is a chance you could roll off the bed. There were no mattress protectors on the beds which is a very big no no and the room did feel as though it needed a thorough clean. There was a lot of dust on bedside lights glasses werent changed and just left on the tea tray and the bin wasnt emptied when the room was cleaned. There were bunk beds in the room that were directly in front of the window so the room was very dark and the lighting was not very good. The breakfasts werent too bad with a reasonable choice but didnt like the tea and coffee kept warm in the flasks as it wasnt as hot as it should have been. The carvery was ok but not a very good choice of food and was the same on two consecutive days.It felt as though leftovers from the previous day were being used to make up some dishes.
We didnt use the pool but had a look at it and it seemed quite nice and the guy who was on duty was very helpful and friendly.
All in all its a shame the hotel seems sad and negleted and tired and if it could just have a good clean up all round it wouldnt matter so much about the dated furnishings and decor and for the price we paid for our three days we didnt really expect much more except it maybe being cleaner than it was

Room Tip: Take a tea bag down to breakfast as the tea is a bit hit and miss.

We booked this as it was good value due to the fact we could leave our car here for the week and get a bus transfer to and from the hotel and airport.
The sleep quality was terrible though, you could here everything going on in the corridor.
The bedroom was very old fashioned, reminded us of Faulty Towers!! I know we were only there for a night, but the hotel is in desperate need of updating.

Got this hotel cheap as stay over from a holiday. Rudest staff ever experienced with absolutely no reception or customer service skills! Rooms dirty and smelling musty with thread bear carpets. Springs broken in bed made for a nightmare stay. Manager not able to deal with all people complaining at the checkout desk. Breakfast really poor. Couldn't wait to leave. Makes Travel Lodge and Premier Inns a 5 *! Needs to shut down for a complete refurb. Pay the bit extra and stay somewhere else. Also complained to Groupon who set the deal up with this hotel, they should steer clear of such bad hotels.

Room Tip: Don't stay here, it's so so bad.

We stayed here for a night before flying out on holiday so we got the weeks parking. The room was clean but very dated with old style TV which was so low down was hard to watch. The bed well it would of been more comfy sleeping on floor it must of been years old so noisy and lumpy not good at all the breakfast in the morning was good had a good choice but the tea in the urn was not very warm needs some work to bring it up to a better standard but for the money you pay I don't know what you expect.

It's cheap, which is good. I stayed here previously about 10 years ago and it was fantastic, however, I don't think a thing has been done to the place since I last stayed and it would appear that cleaning extends as far as changing the sheets, duvet cover and pillow cases. The room was dirty, dusty, run down and did I say dirty.
We thankfully only stayed one night ahead of a wedding nearby.
I didn't complain as we were only there for one night and having carried all of the luggage and accessories for a family of 4, we didn't fancy the idea of changing rooms. the condition of public areas didn't suggest that any other room would be any better.
This is way out of character for Britannia.
There are leisure facilities which are also quite run down. We had promised our daughter that we would go swimming but were surprised to find that the leisure facilities are extra - not mentioned on the booking dot com website when we booked.
All in all, if you're going there for a few hours before a flight it'll probably do but I'd suggest a shower somewhere else when you leave.
