The Europa Gatwick Hotel is a tired, run-down hotel which has obviously seen better days. The alarm bells should have started to ring while at reception while being checked in by an off hand, sullen receptionist. We were offered a discount on our evening meal, but only if we booked and paid for it there and then. Obviously catching us before we had a chance to assess the place. The meal was a very poor carvery with rock hard potatoes, dirty cutlery, and mass produced desserts. Two people sitting near us refused to eat the food and demanded a refund. The lounge area looked very tired with holes in at least one of the settees and our bedroom was kitted out with what looked like fifties style furniture.
Car parking is a very hit and miss affair with insufficient spaces for the number of cars booked in. To cap it all, on our return to Gatwick, the hotel's airport bus completely ignored us and we were left to freeze for almost an hour. When we contacted the hotel, their response was "What can I do about it?"More
