“Not for us”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Stayed here for 1 night as a parking package, booked direct with hotel and sent e mail with price. When we arrived they said our stay would be more, as they made a mistake with parking charge, wasn't impressed. The room was far too hot, making it difficult to sleep. My biggest gripe was the restaurant, food wasn't good and very overpriced, and a restaurant manager that chases you for payment as you stand up from your table. Found that very rude.

We booked this hotel as part of a hotel and parking package and arrived around 9pm expecting a double room as booked. On arrival we were told that there had been a flood and all double rooms were unavailable, it would have been nice to have been pre warned considering it had been booked 5 months. We were offered 20% off food and beverages due to the room change, not much of an offer seeing as they offer 10% off anyway. On arrival to the room i put the television on ready to watch the football, to find that there was no sound, great. Luckily after fiddling with the scart lead i managed to work it. Also on the ceiling in our room there was clear evidence of damp so clearly the room we were given still suffered from the flooding. Overall it is a good location for Gatwick but poor service and rooms. I wouldnt stay again or recommend it.

Stayed at this hotel the night before we flew from Gatwick. We had booked a family room as there was 2 adults and 2 children.

The hotel is situated only 5 minutes from the airport which was great and if you need anything there is a 24 Tesco supermarket just up the road.

The hotel is fairly modern, clean and tidy with the usual facilities. When we entered the room we were a little disappointed as it was smaller than other hotels we had stayed in. Also one of the children's bed was a really uncomfortable as it was pull out bed from a bed. Hard as nails and not fit for purpose. My son actually ended up sleeping on the floor.

I had organised an early wake up call at reception for 4.45am when we checked in and confirmed this again later on in the evening.

In the morning my son woke me up at 5.45 when he went to the toilet. We had received no wake up call and now running extremely late for our flight.

When checking out i was asked if everything was ok with our stay which it was clearly not, but due to the fact we were running so late i could not stay and explain our disappointment to the gentlemen on reception.

In all it was ok for the one night as we had meet and greet included within our package. There are more comfortable hotels which offer very similar packages and i would probably go elsewhere due to the family room being small and the children's beds being so uncomfortable.

My wife & I stayed here one night as part of a park & stay deal combined with APH parking. No complaints about the room, it was a good size, clean & comfortable so we might well stay here again depending on available offer. Check in appeared to go smoothly although we later found out that we should have been told to pre book breakfast at check-in if we wanted to get the discounted price.
Mid evening the fire alarm went off so we quickly dressed and then walked down three flight to the foyer where we found out that it was a false alarm. No announcement was made and we got the news second hand from other guests.
Breakfast next day was the big disappointment. We were told that the price we had been quoted was only for people who prebooked the previous day but after some discussion this was resolved and we paid the reduced rate. The selection was only average and I would have preferred with hindsight to have eaten at the airport (Cafe Rouge has proved excellent in the past). For example the same two rubbery fried eggs sat there for the whole time and never got replaced. On the way out a surly waitress challenged us for leaving without paying, when we explained that we had paid at entry she made it obvious that she didn't believe us and we had to go into great detail regarding what had happened earlier. This was embarrassing in front of other guests & there wasn't even an apology. They really need to improve their customer service skills and I'd recommend that start off by improving their communication skills both in the restaurant and with the front desk.

It's never easy when booking for family of five. But Alison made it simple and sorted a triple room interconnecting to a double.
Excellent rooms, spacious, smart, clean and comfy beds.
Excellent deal on meet and greet parking.
Ideal for stay before holiday and a suburb price.
Have already booked to stay before next years holiday. Excellent news that they are having a refurb too.
Well done Alison and all at sandman.

I've been staying at the Sandman on a weekly basis for nearly a year, and have never had a bad stay in all that time. The hotel is always very clean, staff are very friendly and helpful, it's very well located for Gatwick (99% of people staying are off on their holidays somewhere exotic) and the rooms are a great size.

They have recently re-opened a pool, don't get too excited as it's not much larger than a bath - kids would love it though. The gym is pretty small but better than nothing (2 running machines, 1 rower, 1 cross trainer, 1 static bike and a couple of weights machines) - it's also hardly used which is nice.

Only negative is that it always seems to be really hot! They are apparently working to resolve this, but it's been like it for months - not too bad with the aircon on in your room, but would be nice to be able to open a window.

They are currently refurbing too - starting with the top floor and working down. There is no disruption from this at all.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the 5th floor - for some reason these rooms are a bit tatty, still clean, but with muc...

Arrived late afternoon enjoyed drinks in bar and later a reasonable meal in restaurant. Clean room with nice comfy bed and coffee making facilities. Reception staff friendly and welcoming. The only concern was on arrival it was stated in the car park we would have to pay for parking which we were not aware of having book hotel and airport parking. However when at reception they told us as a special offer for that day parking was free. Other than that a great overnight hotel.
