“lived down to its reviews”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

We booked a twin no smoking room
On arrival I was given a key to a room in the (infamous) sussex wing.
The room REEKED of smoke, and had 2 ashtrays in it! Lovely view of the bins.
I rang reception to complain and was told by the very rude staff member (The duty manager no less!) that they did not have a 'smellometer'
I do - its called a nose!
I should also point out that I had heavy luggage and the room was 2nd floor. no assistance offered.
I went down to reception and confronted the extremely rude duty manager
my room was transferred to a much better, although overheated one, in the main body of the hotel.
I allowed the duty manager to lift my very heavy case for me (I felt it was what he deserved!)
we took advantage of the breakfast special offer £5 per person. The breakfast was worth £5, but not much more.
In short, this is FAR short of Ramada standards, the Sussex wing is an ill equipped disgrace.
This is a good contractors hotel, NOT a Ramada standard hotel.
This is undermined by the sign in reception stating that it is a Ramada franchise establishment and not a Ramada hotel!
BEWARE - lots of special offers on this hotel, you get what you pay for , if you're lucky
Positives - great location, easy to get to Gatwick from

The hotel is comfortable and clean. Needs a bit of updating. Reception staff not always around and could show more customer care. Breakfast was quite satisfactory. Overall not bad for the money. Would stay again when visiting family.

We booked this hotel as a hotel and parking package for our holiday to turkey.the reason we booked this hotel is because it was good value and as previously done hotel and parking at gatwick hotels, did not have to eat at hotel or get in car to find a food restaurant which was affordable.our room was a family room in Sussex wing.admittately it looked a bit dodgy from outside, but it was a lovely big room and clean, very cosy, with nice armchair etc.the best bit about it was going out front of hotel and finding lots of restaurants and bars.we all went to wether spoons for a good cheap meal with drinks and food, wicked start to a holiday without being mugged off.forget reviews and remember this is great for a start of a holiday.

I arrived at the hotel at 21.30 and waited at reception, nobody appeared for 10 minutes, then another couple arrived and we had to wait a further 5 minutes before the receptionist arrived so not the best first impression. I then walked along a very creaky set of steps and hallway to get to the room. On entering the room (403), the heat was at a very high level, however no heaters were on. I'm guessing this room is above the kitchen and I had to sleep with the window fully open all night just to try and keep the temperature down. The room itself was nicely decorated with a nice bed, comfy mattress and flat screen tv. Also had a good choice of teas and coffees with buscuits.

Sleep quality on the first night was poor due to the heat and also due to the fact that a tv was on all night in the next room, and people chatting away loudly in an Indian language. The second night I was better prepared with earplugs and slept much better.
The room also had a large bath/shower with constant hot water and clean towels, however when sitting in the bath, you could see below the rim of the toilet which was black with built in grime-YUCK so this was off-putting.

On arrival I booked breakfast for the 2 mornings. There was a very good selection of sliced fruits, hams and cheeses, cereals and a cooked breakfast which you served yourself. All were well presented and enjoyed.

Although the hotel is in such a good location with close proximity to the bus and railway stations, it has comfortable beds and a tasty breakfast, several things let it down on this visit and so the poor rating from me.

We stayed here the night before our early flight. Having to be up at 4 a.m. we retired early to get a good sleep. Not so!! We were in R409, a spacious room but very hot (no A/C), very noisy (could hear everyone's television until very late) and the floorboards creaked more than Dracula's Castle. The mattress rolled us into the middle of the bed so I used the sofa cushions to sleep on the floor instead. All in all, only managed a couple of hours sleep.
The reception clerk on arrival was very courteous and extremely helpful in providing all the info we would need re local restaurants and directions to the airport car park.
The alleyway between buildings outside our room was used by those having drunk too much and the following morning on our way to the car there was sick everywhere.
The hotel in now a far cry from the beautiful coaching inn it was when I stayed here often in the 70's. It's just another featureless place to rest your head before a flight.

Room Tip: Do not chose one in the old part of the building

This is 2 reviews for a visit I made in March and for another in May. Its not the Ritz, but we only wanted to stop the night following a late flight back into Gatwick and it fitted the bill. Booking in was easy and fast and the receptionist was very pleasant. We also booked breakfast which is only £5 if done on arrival. The rooms were clean and refurbished using good quality materials but the workmanship was very poor. Tea and coffee making facilities are available and the beds were comfy. We went down for breakfast and wondering what you get for £5. It was really good. Buffet English breakfast with the usual fare and if that's not enough you can have continental as well. The first night, we stayed in the main building which had creaking floorboards and very little soundproofing from the room above. For the following stay we were in the annex which was a lot quieter (or there was no-one in the room above). Ideal for a stopover but not for a romantic weekend away. The next time I fly in and out of Gatwick I would have no hesitation booking this hotel.

Room Tip: The main building has little sound insulation between the rooms. The annex may be better as it is a...

Booked a package where we stayed the night and had off airport parking built in to the price - great value. Stayed in the dredded Sussex Wing!!! which is not in the main hotel but for the money I paid for one night - no complaints. Room OK, good shower and kettle in the room. Easy to find, great location (spack in the high street) loads of restaurants within walking distance.

Check in was easy/fast and very polite - so too was checkout. Didn't experience breakfast as had to catch an early flight. Great location for a airport hotel, only 5 minutes from AirParks/BCP (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) off airport parking.

Will book again for August.
