“Lovely setting and flexible and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2013

I stayed at Rowfant House on Friday January 11, and this was my second one night stay.

My room whilst not in perfect order (some paintwork damage and a ceiling light had blown) was very comfortable, with just the right level of heating and a very warm and comfortable bed with impeccably clean and fresh bed linen. The room also oozed charm, whih a lovely view and lots of interesting nooks and crannies.

In fact the whole building oozed charm! To get to my room you had to pass through a room which was rather like a library. Lots of lovely dark wood, which was in pristine condition and smelled of beewax. A key benefit of Rowfant House is it's "Olde Worlde" charm - and this is genuine, not out of a tin. Evidence of the the building's interesting history is everywhere, and this really helps create a comfortable and relaxed environment.

I needed to get away early the next day, and arranged to have breakfast a 0700 (official signs say Saturday breakfast starts at 0830, so this was quite a concession), and to pre-order what I wanted to speed matters up further. This was all accepted with no fuss whatsoever, and when Saturday came all went to plan. The lady running breakfast was waiting for me at 0700 sharp, and the meal was brisky dealt with exactly as I wished. In addition the breakfast was delicious.

I have left the best to last. All of this cost just £30. OK the room wasn't en-suite, but compare this to other accommodation in the Gatwick area and I would challenge you to beat it.

Overall a very pleasant stay.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2012

I stayed at the Rowfant House Hotel for 9 nights during September 2012, I was attending a training course at Crawley Down. The hotel is a mix of an old Elizabethan, and Victorian Manor House. It is owned by the Latvian Church, and run well by the resident team, which includes Latvian Nationals.

There are 8 letting bedrooms, one with ensuite, others with sinks, I stayed in a room with 3 single beds, and a sink - it was comfortable, clean and very quiet.

The restaurant is a potential hidden gem. Their specials in the evening were good, well priced and the staff are very friendly.

The bar is well run, by Ian & Eddie - both are very good indeed. It was ideal for studying, with lots of space to have discussions with other students on the course.

The room rates for a hotel near to Gatwick are £25 for B & B - not en-suite, £40 for B & B ensuite. The breakfasts were very good as well.

Overall the hotel is homely, comfortable and friendly. It is visited by many locals, the restaurant is very busy at lunch times, they do a Pudding Club one afternoon a week, that has coachtours coming to try them out. It is also a good venue for conferences and wedding receptions at reasonable cost.

It does not have internet or wifi access for guests, and I found Orange and O2 mobile connections to be very poor. But if you want to get away from the phone and laptop or the ipad this is a good place to stay. Especially if you need to study.

Room Tip: The views are superb from the front bedroom windows, or the west wing overlooking the lake. Ask for...
