“A well oiled machine.”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

This is the third time we have used Waterhall for our holiday parking and pre- flight stopover and I can't imagine going anywhere else. It's clean, comfortable, friendly and great value. We have eaten here in the past for evening meal but preferred to eat out this time as we wanted more choice. Breakfast was good with the added bonus of watching deer in the garden as we ate.On our return the cars were parked conveniently for a speedy exit. All in all a stress free beginning and end to any holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden

We stayed for one night ready for our early flight to Canada the next day. Our room was very clean and comfortable and totally suitable for our needs. We stayed for dinner and it was delicious. Can recommend the lamb shank!!! The hotel was quiet but to be honest we needed the peace. We were met by a lady who was efficient.
Our food was delicious and served by a very helpful young lady. The setting is delightful and we enjoyed the "wind down" to our holiday.

Just remember the reception is only open from 3pm. No access before then. We turned up early but we found a lovely pub locally and had lunch.
We will recommend this hotel to our friends -it was a lovely start to our holiday. Value for money and we will definitely return.

Nicky (August 2014)

Room Tip: Any room away from reception would be best.

My husband and I stayed here the night before we left for our honeymoon.
We parked our car without problem in the car park and were then greeted by a very friendly receptionist. She ensured that we had a taxi booked for the following morning and our return flight with great efficiency.
Our stay was in room 7, a beautiful and surprisingly spacious room overlooking the extensive gardens (deer spotted in the morning). The bathroom was again surprisingly large and immaculately clean, plenty of towels, toiletries etc.
On arrival we took up the option of a meal, this again exceeded expectations, all home cooked for us by owner Andy, it was so good we had to try a dessert even though we were quite full!
We like that no children under 12 are at the hotel, when we travel as a couple we do not wish to be surrounded by other people's, also as a teacher it is very refreshing to be in purely adult company.

All of the rooms here are individual and unique, have a look at the website before staying and let Andy know if you have a preference, he will do his best to accommodate any requests.

On returning to the hotel this morning Andy made us a drink before leaving, and our car was perfectly positioned for departure.
It was much more reassuring to leave the car at the Waterhall than in a big airport car park due to the care and vigilance of Andy and his team.

There is airplane noise at the hotel but that is to be expected it's very close to the airport, you can't be that close and not expect to hear the planes!!

Will we stay again? YES, we will not stay anywhere else when flying from Gatwick in the future, why would we? the room, food, service, parking and transfers were fantastic. We shall be highly recommending to all.

This was our 3rd stay before flying from Gatwick.
This time we had room 8 which Alex Polizzi had on Hotel Inspector. It is small but lovely.
We sat in the garden late afternoon for a while as it was a warm day. Great for plane watching. Early flight so no time for breakfast. We had dinner the night we stayed at the Star Inn Rusper which I would highly recommend although you may need to book in advance.
Taxis came as ordered.
Will stay again.

Having arrived at the hotel, the car park was full apart from a narrow space! I enquired at reception and was told by the owner "There is nothing I can do." Having booked a room for the night and parking for 12 days my husband had to squeeze our big car into the space. We were not happy with her response and her attitude. It was too late to book in anywhere else. Room and food were very good but the bar food was overpriced. The waiting staff were helpful and friendly. On our return from holiday we arrived back at the shingle car park to find our car had been moved for spaces. Why couldn't this have happened on our arrival as our car keys had to be left at reception. My husband knocked the door for our keys and the keys were given back without as much as a thank you and the door shut behind us. We didn't even go into the reception. In the car was a letter explaining they had omitted to charge us for parking. Not even the courtesy to say on our arrival! Will never stay there again. We suggest the owner needs to have some lessons in courtesy!

Room Tip: The most noisy hotel. They need better sound proofing. It was situated directly at end of runway. A...

Yes, I remember the fuss you made about the space. All I can say in my defence is that there were at least 6 spaces in the car park and people with vans manage to park in them. The spaces are the same size as any supermarket parking space in the country. There was adequate parking for all guests staying that night. Your car would have been moved to the other end of the car park and then brought back to that space for your return. So it wasn't just moved 'for' spaces. And, your keys do not get left on reception, you put them in the security box yourself when you left at 4.15am. I am happy that you thought the room and the food was good. We don't do bar food so it it hard to overprice it! Also, I might add that you could not give us any return flight details so we had no idea when you were returning and could not even book your return taxi for you. We made sure that a letter was in your car explaining the car park charge. Whoever was on duty on your return would have been happy for you to use the facilities if you had asked. From experience most people just want to get on their way. May I suggest that maybe you need to see the bigger picture as we can only give a good service to guests are willing to cooperate!

We booked here before going on our summer holiday we chose this on basis of price and car parking for 2 weeks.
We arrived at c 9pm and as per a previous comment were met by the most unhelpful receptionist. I stay in a hotel most weeks and repeat business is usually on the back of helpful staff .She was abrupt, so unhelpful -we asked what would you recommend the best time for a taxi for our 6.30am flight -she would not give us a time -(we were not asking for it to to be written in blood) , there was a question mark over the bar whether there was anyone around to serve -it seemed very dead and obviously she was keen to get home and there was no reception staff after 9.30pm.We can't comment on dinner as we hadn't booked -but believe by other comments good. Our room were up a difficult flight of stairs and we had to take all our luggage up them with as we couldn't leave anything in the car.The rooms were fine although desperately hot and we couldn't open the windows because of the aircraft .The hotel was convenient but a few basic modifications including importantly staff training of how to welcome customers and operating a true country house hotel rather than a B&B would make a huge difference.
Regards
Richard

I am very sorry that you found the receptionist unhelpful. There is nothing worse than having a long journey and not be made to feel welcome. I also read the previous comments and this is a big issue for me that will be addressed again.
We won't recommend the best time for a taxi for any flight (in case we make a mistake) but what should be asked is what time you would like to be at the airport. We then order the taxi to get you there at that time.
We do not close for checking in until 10pm. If any of our guests would like a drink when they arrive then they should be served. It is not an excuse but we do find that on some nights when everyone is leaving early for the airport they go to their rooms early. It does not alter the fact that the receptionists are supposed to stay until 11pm if guests are still wanting to be served.
It would be entirely your choice if you wished to leave your bags in the car. We also have an area downstairs where luggage can be left.
As everyone knows the weather has been extraordinarily hot lately and even with the windows open it has been difficult to sleep. And, of course not everyone is sensitive to the noise of the aircraft.
I thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay and I offer you my most sincere apologies for the lack of service you received. It makes a huge difference to the ambience of a place when the staff are welcoming and helpful and I can assure you that this will be dealt with.

Stayed here the night before our flight and were very happy.

Did exactly what we needed, drove down the night before. Arrived a little late due to weather, delayed dinner for us (had no problem catering for us arriving late) and a good nights sleep with a taxi organised in the morning. Left the car for two weeks, then collected when we were back.

No problems and would use again.
