“A good airport stopover”
Reviewed 16 December 2012 via mobile

I chose this hotel due to it's close proximity to Gatwick airport and the fact it was on the airport bus shuttle route; paid for but the £3.20 single fare represents good value if you are a single traveller. Not as great if a family.

On arrival it was clear that this 1960s style block had been given a cosmetic makeover with a modern entrance. Car parking (chargeable) was plentiful.

On entering the hotel I was pleased by it's modern appearance in the public areas.

I had taken advantage of a Club room, which must be remembered when considering this review.

The Club room provided free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel together with access to the Club lounge serving free nibbles and drinks during the evening; plus a complimentary buffet breakfast.

This was great as the general bar area was lifeless, although the adjacent swimming pool looked quite inviting behind its glazed panel.

I ate in the restaurant, again a large lifeless area however the food was excellent, albeit relatively expensive.

My room in the separate Club section was amazingly comfortable and well laid out. Spacious with wall mounted LCD TV, lots of workspace, Bose CD player, quality tea and coffee making facilities, safe, bathrobes, iron, mood lighting and a modern bathroom with fabulous walk-in shower and separate bath.

The air conditioning was quiet and performed extremely well.

My only gripe was very limited wardrobe space, but for a layover this was fine.

The views from the window overlooking the road and rooftops was not however particularly exciting.

I was glad that I upgraded to the Club floor, however I poked my head into a standard bedroom on leaving, which was equally as modern but less spacious.

In summary, a good experience albeit a bit pricey. I would return if travelling from Gatwick.

Stayed two separate nights when flying from Gatwick. Hotel has shuttle bus to airport. Used American Airmiles to pay so cannot comment on value for money. Rooms are a bit small but OK for one night and bathrooms are fine. Breakfast is very good. Pool looks great. Overnight parking is £10. Easy to find and convenient for airport. Well maintained and designed.

This was the second time I've stayed here and the service was excellent. Reception staff were very helpful and the room itself was huge as was the bed. Bathroom was also well provided with both bath & shower. The rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable.
My only niggle is with breakfast as with most hotels it's now a breakfast buffet so not always piping hot and overdone eggs not what you would expect for the price.

Room Tip: Book early on the web

I recently stayed here the night before our early flight from Gatwick. The hotel is lovely, very clean and smart, we were greeted straight away at check in by the friendly receptionist and we got to our room quickly without any fuss. The room was nice, quite small but all we wanted for a one night stay. Tea and coffee making facilties, magazines, and shower gel were all provided which was a nice touch. We used the lounge to have our tea as the 'Cube' restaurant was closed when we went down, lovely food and quick service. Quite pricey but you expect this for a 4* hotel. We didn't use the pool or the sports bar but they both looked lovely. The bed was really comfy and had loads of pillows! We had to check out at 4am and again this was really quick and fuss-free and the receptionist was really friendly despite it being so early! The only thing that I didn't like about the hotel was the price they charge for car parking! We parked at the hotel the night we stayed and it costs £10 a night. It is convenient and they provide a shuttle service to and from Gatwick north and south terminals but we found £10 a night quite alot, especially if you're going away for a week! We used the Airparks parking which is just up the road - very good price and quick transfers to and from airport and again fuss-free, would definately recommend this car park if you're staying at the Crowne Plaza!

Stayed here with work recently for a few nights. Rooms are small, service is pretty poor. There is a gym and swimming pool however neither are anything special. The pool certainly is impossible to swim lengths in. Bar prices are fairly typical for airport hotels i.e. expensive! And the restaurant is nothing to write home about. My tip: avoid the kedgeree as breakfast as I ended up in bed for two days with food poisoning!

It's only redeeming feature is that it is fairly close to Gatwick airport and the centre of Crawley, So unless someone else is paying, I would avoid it. If you do have to visit Crawley, and everywhere else is full then you have my sympathies. The airport is about a 10 minute taxi ride away when there is no traffic.

In summary; overpriced and underwhelming.

Only stayed there one night. There was a couple of difficulties at reception as we chose to pay cash. This caused some problems as they wanted to charge a deposit. Wow! Then we found the key wouldn't unlock the door. Still an "angel" from reception brought up two new card keys which worked immediately.

The bathroom was nice - big bath. The best was the deliciously comfortable bed.

Watch the extras though, where other hotels offer wifi and breakfast as standard, not here. They are all added extras that can add an extra £20 for the night. Shame on you Crowne Plaza

The staff at reception were polite & efficient.
Our room was a bit small & the dark walls made it seem more so, but it had a very comfortable bed & was very clean. The bathroom was fine.
The only niggle was lack of decent signage to the car park - it's just off a roundabout & needs to be very clear.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and found your room very comfortable.

The signage for the Car Park is on the barrier, although if you are not familar with the hotel it may not be clear as you drive in . I will feedback your comment to our General Manager .

I do hope that we can be of service to you again in the future.
