Awesome......the only word i can conjure up but you have to write more !!! Men of all ages carefully cleaning and showing the children how the machines work and what they were used for, so many things to look at, everything spotless and lots in working order, all the men keen to tell you the history of their piece of machinery, thank goodness there are people willing to spend time (and usually) their own money on keeping a part of our heritage alive - will be going again xxx

Not a very big pinch of salt is necessary.

The museum is fantastic learning for children in which my daughter found this place fascinating and very easy to get to. My husband found the whole experience excellent and really enjoyable for a bank holiday visit

We haven't visited the museum for a few years and happened to be in Bolton when we noticed that the museum had a steam weekend. What a really pleasant surprise we had. The building has been restored to a very high standard and the contents are wonderful. Some of the finest examples of north of England engineering can be seen working thanks to the incredible dedication of the volunteers who have restored them to their former glory.
With plenty of free parking and free entry this is a must see attraction if you're in the area during opening hours.
Thanks to all the people who have worked so hard to preserve this priceless piece of the history of Great Britain and especially the north west.

Thanks very much for your brilliant review. We are open on most bank holidays in steam and also on Sundays and Wednesdays when we are working but not in steam. It costs £300 to £400 to raise steam for all the machines for the two days we are usually open
Please come and see us again.

My Grandad used to work in the Atlas mills that were demolished to make way for the adjacent Morrisons so it is nice to see that some memory of the place exists. The engines in here powered an industrial revolution that brought prosperity and misery to the North West in the boom of the Cotton Industry and it is sad to think that the memory of the millions of people involved in the whole thing is only preserved by the efforts of a handful of volunteers in places like this. We went on a Steam day and it was well worth it for the noises and the smells which would have been a huge part of the background of daily life a hundred years ago. Sadly the Steam Days only happen on a few weekends of the year and it would be great to see this open full time or part of a bigger site devoted to the cotton industry in Bolton and the North West - it's the kind of thing we should be celebrating as it is a bigger part of more peoples heritage than the abundance of stately homes you can visit! If you can make it though its great to have such a dedicated, welcoming and informative group of people around to explain things - it almost made me want to wander round with an oily rag of my own!
Fantastic, great well done and Thanks!

We cant open more - raising steam is too expensive. But we are open on sundays and wednesdays without steam. We can run some of the machines electrically.
