“Great hotel and great staff!”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

I stayed here last weekend. Managed to get a great rate and while check-in was at 3pm, they managed to get us in early as we needed to go to a wedding. Checkout was at 11 but I called reception and they let us check out at 12 instead with no extra charges.

The staff were very polite and the rooms were nice.

Overall it was a great stay and I will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: I went for the executive double which was £65 on a Saturday night - this includes usage of the Spa a...

Stayed with friends in the summer. Not a budget hotel but not overly expensive either. Really tidy inside and the rooms offered are spacious and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I arrived last minute (10pm) after being let down by another hote and was accommodated easily.

Only downside is it is not central to the town, however on a good road and only minutes by car (I don't think you can walk to town). Very close to the M3 which is an advantage if just passing through and need somewhere to rest your head.

The gym was decent and not too crowded.

I would recommend this place to anyone, as long as they were willing to drive to go into town.

Room Tip: No great views anyway, all rooms are of a decent standard.

The hotel was in a good central location however it was in dire need of development. We were on floor 4 and the decoration was peeling walls with palsterboard. The room was tiny and thrown bath was dirty. Not what you expect from a four star.

Needed a hotel not too far from Heathrow and towards Winchester. This came up in my search and I was not disappointed. Good communications with the staff, exceptionally efficient reception, reasonable quality room (not sure an Ambassador would find the room up to his standard), comfortable bed, good shower, ample parking and it was quiet. Breakfast was acceptable though the cold baked beans were a first. Not enough tea / coffee and it was of mediocre quality: biscuits were useful.

Room Tip: go for an inexpensive up-grade

We had a deal including fine dining ln an executive room. Fantastic value at £89.00 for the two of us and the evening meal lived up to expectations although the wines were expensive. Room a little small but everything was there. Breakfast was fine. Some redecoration taking place at the time but this didn't worry us.

Stayed at the Apollo for one night for a much needed break - wanted something within an hour's travel to relax, use the gym etc. Found this on Late Rooms for £89 and it was phenomenal value! The three course meal (plus an amuse!) in the Vespers Restaurant would have come to over £50 so with the wonderful selection for breakfast (priced at £15.50pp) , we must have had the room for free!

The Executive bedroom was clean and comfortable with all amenities - would pay a little extra next time for a King size bed. It was a little noisy as there was a wedding and there were refurbishments but it didn't spoil the stay. The gym & pool were good, seemed to be very popular with the pamper day crowd. I had booked in for a massage on the Sunday which was lovely. The ladies changing room was a little basic & the ceiling a bit manky.

What made this stay was the staff - every single one friendly and helpful. And the food in the Vespers restaurant (every one of its 4 AA stars is well deserved) was delicious.

Booked last minute through Late Rooms as was a sensible price and we wanted somewhere to stay half way to Bournemouth. It is a far way from the train station though in the a suburb with not a lot happening. If you are not driving, there is little to do nearby (except a good kids park behind)

The car park had plenty of space, and the bride & groom entering the hotel gave an immediate indication of how this hotel flourishes. The rooms are typical corporate style hotel rooms of a good size but without any flourishes or beauty.

The public areas are fine but I couldnt understand why they have a bar terrace on the front but with no bar. The restaurant behind it only opened in the evening and for breakfast. You had to get your drinks from the main bar and walk through reception. Surely there is a better way of working.

We didn't have dinner of breakfast but had a snack and drinks from the bar, it was ok but not brilliant. The waiter seemed to be reluctant to venture from behind his bar counter. The spa is good but nothing special. My wife and did have a massage each though and they were very good.

All in all, pleasant enough if you need to be in that part of Basingstoke, but maybe not for you if you want somewhere in the heart of the town or if you want a romantic break or similar.
