“A most pleasant stay”
Reviewed 9 December 2011

The 'Milton' Hilton is very conveniently located for access to the Open University campus in Milton Keynes - within walking distance. The front desk staff were most friendly as was the good service in the restaurant. Their breakfasts and dinners cater for vegetarians wihch is a plus and the food was good quality. Pleasant lounge and bar area alongside reception.
The corridors are long from the lift - if your electronic room key stops working I discovered later that you can use the phone by the lift to ask someone to come up and sort it out.
Comfy bed, very quiet location while I was there - mid-week. Biscuits provided with the tea-making tray in the room. Bathroom has a bath with shower over it rather than a walk in shower. Nice quality soap bar provided instead of those dreadful containers of soap that you get in some hotels - and hangers that you can take off the rail - yay!. Iron provided in room as well. There is also a spa and pool that I did not have time to use though. I do not know how much the stay cost as the clients paid but I suspect it may be out of my usual budget.
A most pleasant 2-night stay!.

Stayed here one night on business. Arrived around 6pm (plenty of parking in the carpark), and began a 10 minute wait to be checked in (only one receptionist working front of house). She apologised profusely, welcomed me to the hotel and efficiently checked me in. I was given a voucher for a free drink at the bar (didn't take it up!), and asked if I wanted internet access. When I asked if there was a charge, she said that since I had waited so long, it would be free. How very kind and thoughtful.

My room request was honoured (high floor away from lifts), and on entering the room, was pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the room (though the bathroom could do with an update, the bedroom was modern, clean and showed little signs of wear and tear). Rooms were well stocked with tea/coffee etc.,

Popped into the gym which was empty at 815pm, had all the equipment I needed, and was airconditioned.

I had room service, and had a very pleasant chat to the young lady who brought in my tray.

The bed was really comfy, and had a terrific sleep.

Breakfast was buffet, well presented and plentyful.

Check out was a breeze, and as I went to the lift noticed that on the top floor (press 2 on the lifts but the rooms are all 300!), they were delivering some brand new mattresses.

All in all a very pleasant stay, made better by friendly, helpful staff.

This hotel excelled for service. Everybody was especially helpful. The furnishings were the thing that let an otherwise well organised hotel down. The breakfast was really good, and the scrambled egg was the best I've eaten in years. The price was reasonable, and if the hotel simply said it is located by the Open University HQ finding it would be simple.

Room Tip: I understand they are refurbishing rooms

Stayed here for a long weekend recently and had a very pleasant surprise. Out of the centre and quite difficult to reach by public transport (as we did) but taxi journey to central Milton is about £8. Bus stops right outside but it was difficult to get any helpful information from the driver - eg where to get off - so we got off too early and had a short walk to reach the hotel.

Rooms are very clean and comfortable and it was quiet at night. Excellent breakfast buffet. Drinks were a bit pricey.
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice pool , sauna and steam room - not too big but easily got my swim each day.

This is part of the same Hilton group as the Doubletree and the rooms have a similar layout.

The Doubletree has the edge with the rooms being newer but this hotel has the edge on the dining facilities having a less formal layout and better food.

All of the staff are extremely helpful and attentive

The pool is more of a postage stamp but the rest of the facilities are good.

There is plenty of parking available.

A one night stay on business. Super efficient and friendly from check in to check out. My online pre-order for extra towels and pillows were waiting in my room, and I received a voucher for a free drink at the bar at check in too.

I managed to get down to the leisure club, and found it quiet with only a few other people using the pool and other facilities around 7pm. A little later on there appeared to be a ladies water-obics class in the main pool, so I'm not sure how that impacts on guest use?

I ate out that night, the X-Scape centre is not too far away if you have a car and has plenty of food types available with free parking after 6pm.

Breakfast the following morning had a good selection available, except the lack of both strawberry jam AND croisants. They were completely out of the former, and I couldn't wait the 10 or so minutes for the latter - the only dissapointment during my stay.

A great place to stay, convenient access to MK, Bletchley, and the M1 Motorway. Well lit car park with plenty of space available. Easy to find with a sat nav - takes you straight to the entrance using just the postcode.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor away from the lifts - odd numbers rooms face away from the road.

Have just had a 4 night stay at the Hilton, Milton Keynes. The hotel is not what you expect from Hilton - it is more a Travelodge with a decent restaurant attached.

On the plus side, all the staff were generally good & helpful. Dominika on Reception at check-in could not have been more helpful. Service in the restaurant on the first night (Monday) was a bit hit & miss. (We ate out in Milton Keynes for the remainder of our stay).

The rooms at this hotel are a little on the tired side, but were generally clean, including the bathroom. No hot water on Thursday morning - unsure if we were unlucky (colleagues also affected) or if there was a fault/everyone wanted a shower at the same time. In my room there was a huge crack in the paintwork on the coving along the ceiling. If you looked on top of the wardrobe it was clear this had not been cleaned (bar what you can reach from floor level) for a long time... there was dust & rubbish up there. On the plus side for the room - the bed was very comfortable,

Housekeeping had an interesting ability to swap the used coffee mugs in the room for clean ones with identical hair-line cracks on the inside each day... draw your own conclusions, but I suspect they were the same mugs all week.

All in all, there was nothing wrong with this hotel - but it was definately not up to the standard you expect when you book a Hilton (bear in mind that "Hampton by Hilton" are currently advertising in the press for £49/night rooms with free WIFI etc... WIFI was £15/24hrs here if you wanted it). I am sure this review will get the boiler-plate response from the hotel manager (i.e. thanks / sorry / email me the room number so I can check it personally etc) - this should not be necessary!
