“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2014

I tend to avoid Holiday Inns. Perhaps too many stays in them driving up and down the east coast of the US in the sixties and seventies. This hotel changed my perspective on the chain. Excellent and very helpful front desk staff. The breakfast in the morning was very good and very fresh. Service in the bar in the evening was excellent as well as the food on the limited menu. No worries there as there are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Good hotel choice if you are in MK.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an executive room. Gives you a little more space to relax

We have stayed in this hotel many times. The welcome at reception is always warm and friendly. The rooms are well appointed, nothing fancy but nice and always clean. The food at the bar and for breakfast have always been excellent (the pancake machine is a little slow but worth the wait)
Located over the road from the main shopping area and a couple of blocks up from the bars and restaurants. It's a good place to stay for a relaxing weekend of shopping and dinning out

Don't let the 1970's concrete exterior of the hotel (next to another 1970's concrete building) put you off - this is after all Milton Keynes - the home of concrete 1970 style buildings. Even the ones built recently look this way. Anyway - back to the hotel. Very polite staff at check in with a very efficient check in process. The hotel is built around an atrium, looking down onto the bar area. My room looked 'outside' rather than into the atrium. Not sure how noisy those rooms would be, but mine was silent. The room was very clean - and smelt (not overly) freshly painted. The bathroom was very clean. There was an iron and ironing board for all of you that like nothing more than a spot of ironing on your weekend away. Would happily stay there again should the need arise as the location is very central. One tip for anyone driving there... Don't give IHG your hard earned money (unless your employer is paying) for parking, currently £6 overnight. Just to the side of the hotel is 'standard' public parking at 40p an hour. The hotel try and warn/scare you that you parking is enforced from 7am to 6pm. You DON'T have to put your dressing gown on and feed the meter at 6.58am if you don't want to. Instead, you can 'over-feed' the meter in the evening when you arrive and the money goes into the next day. So, if you arrive after 6pm, put £1.20 in the meter, you'll have paid for your parking until 10am. Or you could pay £6 in the 'special' hotel car park and park no nearer, but you do get to drive under a nice red and white barrier on your way in and out.

Wife and I booked an "executive" room this time for 3 night and was OK. For a change the room was on 4th (top) floor and gave quite a panoramic view over car park and extended countryside beyond MK. There is no issue with traffic noise.Room was a good size with minibar and some complementary bottled water and chocs replenished daily.
Full bath and decent shower. All clean and in good order.
Hotel has a good size car park but it does get pretty full. There is a charge of £6 per day.
WiFi access is £16 per 24 hours - lesser and longer periods available. Pity there is a charge although quite common in the industry. It is notable that a number of hotels are not now charging.
Satellite and HD TV channels - good selection.
Room rates differ quite dramatically depending on flexibility and some other factors so it can be worth deciding on exactly what you require as the savings are significant, also for a particular night - Saturday, Sunday etc.
The hotel hosts the usual conferences and weddings.
Service tends to be good.
Health Club available for guests gratis. £1 coin for lockers - returnable on departure. Pool, gym, sauna and steam room. Fairly basic but quite a nice facility - shower temperatures a bit iffy!
Efficient staff in Restaurant dealing with multiple splitting of bill for 10. All trouble free.
Really not a lot to complain about personally although we find the beds too soft.

Room Tip: Hotel is "atrium" style so some rooms overlook the central area with the bar and restauran...

Hotel was in a very handy position for local shopping, bars and restaurants.
Quiet at night. Drinks very expensive.
Pool good - changing rooms need a good clean. Room very good, clean, easy access / nice smelling corridors. Mini fridge in the room - will remember for next time

Had a nice stay in this hotel. From Reservations when I requested for an upgraded and I have been granted which I was pleased . Even services were reduced ...all were efficient . Burger ordered at the bar area was yummy. My only problem I have encountered during my 3 day stay was a very loud family next door to me. I tried to contact Reception few times ( Christmas Eve) to make them aware of noise but no answer ! Overall was good .
