“race weekend”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

Stayed here at the weekend while visiting Silverstone for the Classic. Booked in March and this was the only hotel with two twin rooms available for last weekend. Very comfortable rooms. Reception and restaurant staff very pleasant and helpful, especially the breakfast staff. A word of warning: Parking is £6.00 per 24 hours, and if thje car park is full you need to use the public car park. Watch out for the "Premium car park" and ensure you read the small print (barely legible) on the machines, as it's easy to get fined, even though you've paid, as I found out to my cost. (Should have worn my glasses when I went out at 7.00am to put a ticket on the car.) The car park Gestapo are around even at that time on a Sunday morning.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn MK for a recent concert at the MK bowl. It was obvious that the hotel was perhaps busier than it would normally be because of guests attending the same concert, and our 'pre-allocated' room wasn't ready well past the 2pm check-in time stated on the confirmation. There was also no spaces in the hotel car park. I overheard the desk staff complaining to each other about the numbers of people checking in.

On return to the hotel after the concert, and after a pretty long old walk (no taxis available) we were informed the kitchen staff had turned off all the ovens and cookers and could only order cold food from the room service menu (or a couple of items that presumably could be microwaved). They didn't even have crisps, just nuts. So we didn't bother.

The room was OK. Corporate in style, typical of a Holiday Inn I suppose. The bathroom felt a bit tired and dated though. Though the bed was pretty comfortable, and I'd have got a decent nights sleep if it wasn't for the banging of doors along the corridor for most of the night. Plus the fact that whenever anyone entered or left the neighbouring rooms it sounded like someone was trying to open the door to our room.

Breakfast was made with the cheapest ingredients you could find, and was like something you'd get in a builders cafe for £2.99 (but cost £9.99 with a pre-purchased voucher, it cost more without one), and getting the attention of the staff to order a coffee was not the easiest.

So in conclusion, if you need a business hotel in MK this would probably just about fit the bill. But if there's a concert on at the MK bowl, then they struggle with the numbers of guests.

Room Tip: We had an 'executive room', I seriously doubt its worth the extra over a standard room

Stayed four nights and would not hesitate to stay again. The room was comfortable as was the bed. The free breakfast was more than adequate and was a great start to the day. It is an approximate 15-20 minute walk to or from the train station which is where the buses were to take you to the Grand Prix in Silverstone. We were very pleased with our stay!

having booked several hotels via holiday inns website, i booked a stay for 26-27 july, in a double executive room, we then stayed at the Taunton Holiday Inn and found the room was tiny, on our return i decided to cancel the booking due to the limited size of the room, i was told i had already been charged for the stay and it was non refundable and they would keep the booking for me as it was paid for, it turned out we couldnt use the dates and I called to see if it was possible to change the date and they agreed and rebooked it for me on the phone, however there has been absolutley no confirmation and the booking has not been entered onto my web account, i am so annoyed by this i am unprepared to continue to chase them about the booking or the payment taken at the time of booking with no clear indication of this on the website.

i will no longer be using the brand and have plenty of wasted points i had been saving for a free stay, which seems ironic when i have paid for a room i never got to sleep in!

Room Tip: do not book online - you maybe charged for cancellation

I booked a last minute one-night stay here prior to a concert at Milton Keynes bowl. When we arrived we found we couldn't go into the restaurant because a small party of about 10 people had booked the space. The restaurant could easily have accomodated them in a section and still had the restof the space open. As it was we ate in the bar area, which was loud and crowded with wedding-goers who were spilling out of the reception area where they were located. During the night some of the "guests" from the wedding got into a physical brawl outside of the hotel - screaming, punching, wailing from wives and others. No one from the hotel seemed to know anything about it the following morning when we complained. How they could not know is beyond me - it was very loud and upsetting. Breakfast in the morning was very bland. The restaurant is loud because of the atrium just outside. Sound is amplified and all you can hear is voices and cutlery clashing - it reminded me of a dorm. The front desk staff was what I would describe as forced-pleasant. They weren't rude but the smiles didn't reach their eyes. I was surprised - for sure - as this is the only hotel chain we stayed at for our entire 25 days abroad - and I would take any of our other Air BnB or pub stays over this one. Try the White Hart in Newport Pagnell if you're tempted to stay here. It's far cheaper and the people treat you like they appreciate your business.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room away from the front entrance - it is bound to be quieter.

staff friendly and efficient. Public areas clean and tidy. Rooms clean and tidy but a bit dated and 80s with all the faux post-modern Vulcan angles. It's down to taste I guess. My only real gripe is the breakfast. Poor quality sausage and cheap baked beans and rubbery dried scrambled eggs. I have stayed here before and the breakfast is always the same, by that I mean cheap and nasty. The breakfast needs a serious overhaul.

Held a family party here on Friday 27th June. Lovely venue, good food but most important of all GREAT staff. Could not fault anything from booking the event to checkout the day after the party. A special thanks to Ashleigh our events organiser and to Cindy who made sure everything ran smoothly on the night. Everyone commented how wonderful everything was. Will definitely be booking again.
