“Chas N Dave Charity Night”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Fantastic night at The Cosgrove Lodge on Friday evening. It was Cockney Night with Chas N Dave. An evening with Pie, mash and Liquor, which I found out was recommended by Chas and Dave themselves and was shipped in from Southend especially for the 150 guests. Liz Emmett made a beautiful Bread Pudding for dessert. The room was decorated with silver balloons spelling out Chas N Dave in 2ft letters. The tables were set out with tasteful decor and the chairs covered and tied with silver ribbon. I have been to a lot of venues before but I have never seen so much effort being made for the sole purpose of pleasing the customer. With the food eaten it was time to sit back and be entertained. Chas N Dave did two sets and were really good, as was expected. We had Pearly King and Queens selling raffle tickets, dancing and mingling with the customers. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. The bar staff worked hard as did the waitresses. Les Dawsons wife Tracy and his daughter Charlotte travelled down from Blackpool to Compere and do the raffle. The prizes were amazing. From a holiday, hampers, spa day etc 19 prizes in all. They were lovely and spent 7 hours at The lodge talking to people afterwards and sharing their memories and happy times with Les. They were just happy to help and be a part of this special fund-raising evening. I had booked a table for twelve and everyone of my guests had an brilliant night. Charity Events I have been to in the past have cost me normally £100 a ticket and not always with food so £40 I paid for excellent entertainment, fab food and great hospitality is, in my opinion, money extremely well spent!!!! Elizabeth Emmett, your family and staff Thankyou so much for an amazing evening at The Lodge. You worked hard to keep us entertained and provided us all with everything we needed for a great night out. I look forward to going to The Lodge in December and having a lovely Sunday Lunch and especially some home-made Christmas Pud!!!! That Christmas Pudding is just the best!!!!!

We had a wonderful evening at The Cosgrove Lodge Hotel. Chas and Dave were great, the pearly king, queen and princess perfect and the pie and mash smashing. It was a really nice surprise to see that Les Dawson's wife and daughter had kindly given their time to attend and compare, they did a grand job. All in all we had a fabulous evening and the staff did a fantastic job.

I have had many social events here with friends, always had a great night, this was no exception, thoroughly enjoyed the evening, we were met at the main door by Pearly Kings and Queens which set the scene for our 'Ol London knees up...pie, mash and liqueur was excellent, homemade bread pudding to follow yummy, all added to the 'London' theme brilliantly...loads of Union Jack bunting on display...I am really glad Chas and Dave did 2 sets, as one would not have been enough...auction prizes were brille, nice to see Les Dawsons wife and daughter, who gave their time generously, helping to make lots of money for charity, staff friendly and all work really hard...everyone is so welcoming, really nice to go somewhere family owned, not part of a franchise...thanks and defintiely see you all again soon...Sue

Great night thanks to chas and dave if only we had left as soon as they had performed !!

Les dawsons daughter was very nice and probably would have done a great job had her mother not had taken over and totally tried to outshine her thus putting on a rather embarrassing and awkward auction and raffle !!

Bars well overpriced and the food was not worth the £40 ticket next time ill go to the stables to watch chas and dave at half the price and minus some cringy comparing !!

Yet again the Cosgrove Team took care of me and my guests. 'Real' Pearly Kings and Queens (the genuine article not just people in costumes) greeted us at the door with a warm welcome.

The small intimate nature of the venue allows you to be up close and personal to the act (my fellow revelers were thrilled to be inches away from the Legend that is Chaz and Dave).

As a bonus there was a charity auction which was presented by Tracy and Charlotte Dawson, the wife and daughter of the Late Great Les Dawson. They spent the entire evening mingling with all the guests chatting and having photos taken. Lovely people and pretty decent prizes too.

I have been to the Lodge many times over the years and have been taken care of and the aforementioned evening was no exception, although if I were to 'nit pick' I would have liked an alternative to the liquor served with the pie and mash, perhaps some gravy, but that is just personal preference.
