Owner description: Thrift Farm is a 52 acre farm and is a Rural Training Centre/working environment for Adults with Learning Difficulties. Approximately thirty trainees attend the farm each day. Places are also provided for students from Special schools and other local establishments. The trainees work on the farm with the help and guidance of a small, experienced staff team. We have a good selection of farm animals - cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, pony, donkeys, chickens, ducks, geese, rhea and turkeys. We have a hatchery with various small animals - chicks, ducklings and guinea pigs and rabbits. There is also an aviary with budgies and cockatiels. On the Animal Park is also a play and picnic area. Please feel free to bring a picnic with you. We also sell some animals - guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigs and goats. Thrift is a small farm most suitable for younger children and has a cafe with a children's menu at reasonable prices. At our cafe you can have a lovely homemade lunch and cake. There is a play house and tractors for children to play with. You can purchase at our Gift shop children's books, gifts, toys, homemade jams, free range eggs (chicken, duck, geese, quail and turkey) and also buy hatching eggs and more. We have a Garden Centre producing a variety of shrubs, perennial and bedding plants, herbs and hanging baskets. A small shop sells planters, wind chimes, seeds and other horticultural sundries. At 11am there is a Story Time every first Sunday of the month. The cost is £4 per child including lunch box ( it does not include entrance to the farm). We organise children's parties.

“Great little farm, brilliant for toddlers, such good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014 via mobile

My husband and I took our 19mth here on a Wed and it was pretty much empty. The entry costs are such good value and the feed is well worth purchasing (also very cheap to buy). There is just enough to keep little ones occupied without overwhelming them. Plenty of opportunity to get up close to the animals but still have the safety of fences etc. The paths are great for pushchairs so you don't have to get muddy if you don't want to. Theres a small out door play area suitable for over 3yrs and a few benches scattered around to picnic at. We were lucky enough to go when it was lambing season and saw many hr old lambs which fascinated my daughter and husband alike. The shop offers a small array of fairly priced items as well as local/homemade jams and fresh duck, goose and chicken eggs. The tea room is well priced and food looked delicious and fresh. We opted for tea and cake which was scrumptious. If you're into gardening there is a vast array of seedlings, flowers and shrubs in the garden centre. All plants are a great price, we filled our boot. Its great to see a working farm which is providing educational opportunities to the eoder community whilst still offering a fun, exploratory place for families to enjoy. Keep up the good work, we will be back!

“A Family Day Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2013

The weather was fantastic and we were looking forward to a peaceful day among the animals. We were impressed with the variety of breeds of ducks and chickens. The goats and kids were delightful and welcomed our offerings of food. The animals are all well looked after and have a lot of space. When lunchtime came around we made our way to the tea rooms, what a warm and friendly welcome. The food is of a high quality and the staff look after your every need. I had a look through the comment book and was amazed on the distance some people come to support the farm and their staff. The work done on this farm is so beneficial and I would urge you to give it a visit. Bring cash with you as there is no card facility but there is a lovely gift shop and lots of fresh homegrown eggs.

“Nice little day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2013

Nice little farm, I went on a weekday and it was pretty empty. All the baby animals were sooo cute, so happy i went in Spring. The only downside was they didn't accept card payments and i didn't bring much cash with me so i was unable to get any refreshments.
