“Hit and miss”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

We went here Saturday night. We have been here before. The specials run out realy quickly. We opted for the last two fillet steaks.Rather small for 7ozs! My husband ordered rare and myself medium, both were cooked the same. The peppercorn sauce tasted of nothing. The chips were undercooked. The waitress was very nice and apologetic (not her fault).I asked if the award winning chef was cooking tonight and was told he was! The main course cost £23 each a bit pricey for dissapointing food. The pub and restaurant is very nice and deserves better quality food. We eat out every weekend so have tried most places in the area.Only a fortnight before had a beautiful steak with lovely creamy peppercorn sauce in galloways woburn.

“Lovely meal & a treat for veggies”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

I found the Swan by chance when arranging a family reunion and picked it because of it's location - as it turned out the food and service turned out to be great too. We've been back several times and i can't fault either food or service. Menu's are innovative and focused on local/seasonal produce and are well cooked and beautifully presented. I love the fact that they serve many dishes as starters or mains as you wish and have several veggie options to choose from throughout the menu. Each of the veggie dishes seems to have some thought gone into it rather than simply sticking a veggie option for each course on the menu under sufferance which is what most restaurants feel like.

Service is usually friendly and efficient and the staff check regularly that everything is okay and deal with issues on the spot quickly and courteously. Prices are reasonable given the quality and amount of food. Portions are normal portions for an adult (rather than the mega portions that some places serve) and enable you to be able to sample 3 courses. Wine list is good - though a few more by the glass and/or some carafes or half bottles would be nice as the location means that in a couple one of you will be driving.

Great little restaurant - well worth a visit

“Nice surprise”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Stopped by on a Friday night for an unplanned bite to eat. On entering the car park it didn't look too promising as it was quite full. But thankfully they had a table for 2. They explained to us that they needed the table back in just over an hour so we were able to take that into consideration when ordering.

It was quite a wide menu. Lost of options on fish, which I unfortunately dont like. Some items seemed a little on the slightly more expensive side £18 for a simple steak. But there were other options. We had Bangers & Mash around £12 and served a good portion and very tasty. I opted for one of the boards with a nice selection of meats, cheese, bread & dips for £11. Excellent!

Their large glass of wine was exactly that large! Service was prompt & friendly without being too fast. The place was busy but because the tables were not on top of each other it didn't feel crowded. The bar are was very busy but again the well thought out layout meant this didnt overpower the restaurant area.

There was what looked like a very nice outside garden and patio area. Unfortunatey the rain & cold of this april stopped us from using it but I think we will be visiting it again on a sunnier day.

I also noticed that they had a very nice lighter menu served all day up to 6 pm that was more resonably priced with acollection of sanwiches and soup amongst other things.

A really nice village pub well worth the visit.

“Carefully Check The Bill”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

Visited with group of friends, many of whom are regulars. Atmosphere is good but pity the main course specials had run out by the time we ordered. Our table was 8pm so not especially late. Food was of good quality and timely in arrival once ordered. However watch your bill. We were overcharged by £39 which was refunded when we pointed it out. 2 items were charged that had never been ordered. One item was incorrectly billed for something that wasn't even on the menu. The 28 day aged sirloin on the bone was charged at £60 (bill stated Chateaubriand ) when the menu price was £44, The portion size was tiny, barely enough for one person and it was not on the bone. It looked like an ordinary steak that had been sliced, put on a wooden board and sent to table. Not sure we will be back in a hurry.
