Leeds Castle is beautiful and full of history. The tour is very informative and and the rooms well preserved. But the best about Leeds castle is its setting in a lovely park. Only to go for a walk in the park is worth a visit. lakes, creeks, meadows and lots of flower beds are well maintained. Also there is a bird zoo on the grounds which is particularly interesting for children. They also have shows with birds going on. The maze is another attraction which is just fun to find your way though. All together a place to come again and again through the seasons, it is worth it!

You can't find out the entrance price until you reach the till. It's not displayed anywhere, you literally have to ask the cashier. And I'm not surprised they don't give you advance warning, because I'm sure more people would turn around and leave. They rely on the embarrasment factor to keep you there. The cashier sells it by saying you can come back as many times as you like during the year, but I don't want to visit more than once in a blue moon, so it's well over priced. How do families afford days out like this??

The castle has changed hands quite a lot over the years and the reason some find it surprisingly modern on the inside is all thanks to the last owner who renovated it from its run down state. This owner also ensured it would be open to the public after her death.

Be prepared for a lot of walking as there is a large amount of ground to cover. The gardens are spacious and well maintained. Despite going on a busy day it never felt overcrowded. The castle viewing is well supervised and very organised.

There is a free bird show twice daily and a maze which is fun. There are also grassy areas at the entrance where you can picnic before going into the grounds.

Be sure to check their website first to see if they have any events on the day. We went on a day which they had none (thankfully for us - don't know how we would have fit it in otherwise).

Cons
Adult price is £17.50 which is expensive though there is a lot to see.
I missed the entrance first time when driving as there was a massive sign for something else instead of the castle.
Guide book was too pricey to buy but we didn't feel we missed it

Pros
Ticket valid for a year
Well organised and welcoming
Beautiful scenery surrounding the castle

We have wanted to go to Leeds castle for a long while. We travelled a round trip of 300 miles and was disappointed. I think it started when you arrive, pay an enormous sum with your family and don't get a map! Enquiring later when you are trying to find your way we discovered that even though we had spent a fortune you have to buy a map for £1.20!!

You do get a free upcoming events brochure but there is no doubt that you are not in a freindly buying mood so you certainly spend less. Lousy coffeee in paper cups doesn't help.

The castle and gardens are ok but it is really a modern castle with a bit of 12/15th century history.more of a Disneyland but not with the positive Disneyto the customer attitude that must come from poor motivation at the top. Not a happy place.
