“Basic & Noisy”
Reviewed 3 March 2013

I stayed here for nights on business , Monday to Friday.
At £70 - £80 a night it is not very good value for money.

The hotel is located very close to Watford Junction Train Station.
This is both good and bad. It means London and surrounding areas are very accessible.

However, it also means that trains pass the hotel every 5 minutes.
The trains pass less than 50 metres from the hotel making it extremely noisy - even at night time.

The food is average, and only available after 6pm. There is no lunch-time food.
The breakfast is buffet style with the usual options: Eggs, Sausages, Cereal, Bread, Jam etc...

The internet connection is advertised as 'high speed' but do not be fooled.
The connection is terrible. It is very very slow.

The room was well sized and clean, but there is no iron or ironing board.
There was an ironing room which was not very clean.

There is 'secure' parking but you have to pay for it, and it is not secure.
It is accessible from a number of different entrances.

I found a number of small things that let it down such as:
Dirty glasses in the bar, dirty plates & cups at breakfast, broken shower head in the room.
The water was not always hot in the morning for a shower.

On a positive note, the staff are friendly and helpful.

Overall I was not very impressed and would probably not stay there again.

Room Tip: If you get a room at the back of the hotel be prepared for it to be noisy with passing trains. I wou...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review. You feedback is much appreciated, as it helps us to improve the services we provide. I will certainly look into the points that you raised and rectify them accordingly. I am very sorry for all the shortcomings you found. The location next to the train station is out of our control and I would recommend to request a quiet front facing side if you are a light sleeper. There is usually no lunch served in any of the Holiday Inn Expresses, I am afraid. The car parking at the back of the hotel is owned and managed by a third party and we have an agreement in place that allows our guests to use it at a very competitive day fee of £3.00. It is free at nights and all day weekends. Once again please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Best regards,

This hotel is right beside the train station... Literally a 3 minute walk however the walk is down a dark lane and through a carpark which did not feel the safest especially for a girl on her own.
The hotel is basic but the reception service was polite and efficient. Rooms are OK. You get what you pay for. Clean but not very many amenities.
There are not many options to eat near the hotel. There is a pub and a chinese. Chinese was excellent but you are not overwhelmed by choice of eating places. Many people in the hotel ordered take away. There seemed to be a constant stream of pizza delivery boys.
Breakfast is complementary but is quite basic. Cereal, toast, tea, coffee. Don't expect anything more.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry that you found the back of the hotel dark. Please note that we will be improving the car park lighting next month. I would also like to point out that the hotel is 10 minutes walk from the town centre where you can find much better choice of restaurants.

We used this hotel for a one night stay so we didn't have to travel back to Manchester after visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Check-in is 2pm but we (2adults , 1child) arrived early at 12.45pm but the room was ready! Staff were really friendly & helpful. The room & bathroom were very clean.
We stayed on a Saturday night and did not notice any noise either outside or from other hotel guests.
Hotel is a 2 minute walk from Watford Junction Station.
I would have given this hotel top marks but breakfast was a little chaotic. The breakfast room is small....so my tip would be to get down to breakfast as early as you can (we went down about 8.45am).
Great value hotel - if you just want a clean room to sleep in, have a wash and have some breakfast then this hotel is perfect! Would stay there again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I am sorry that you found the breakfast chaotic on Sunday morning. It is true that on some Sundays the breakfast gets very busy above all when we reach full bed and sofa bed occupancy and as it is Sunday, many guests come down for breakfast later and all at the same time. I hope that it won't deter you from staying with us some time in the future.

Me and my sister stayed here for 2 nights and had a very pleasnt stay. Great budget stay location was excellent being only a 15 minute train ride from central london and a 10 minute bus ride from harry potter studio tours. The only down side the location was the closeness to watford junction train station as it is a very busy station. If I stayed here again I would ask for a room away from the trainlines. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bit basic but there was always pleanty. Not far from watford city centre and shopping so a good base for local shopping and attractions.

I stayed for one night. The hotel is well situated right next to Watford Junction train station. However, the entrance is on the main road before and it is very easy to miss it and drive past. I was surprised at how quiet it was, as I thought the trains would disturb me! Good staff and clean rooms. Its easy and quick to get to London which I suspect is why people choose to stay here. Parking is free on the weekend. As usual though, the UK branch of IHG is extremely poor at welcoming its Royal Platinum Ambassadors. UK hotels just don't seem to appreciate your loyalty unlike hotels abroad which really highlight your status and loyalty with a much more welcoming approach. All in all, easy and affordable for people wanting to visit London.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry that you did not receive an Ambassador welcome. I hope that as a Platinum member you at least received a free drink at the bar. Hopefully it won't deter you from choosing our hotel once again in the future.

Nice clean hotel in good condition throughout - with the added bonus of friendly staff! Rooms are a decent size for the price, with the usual pay-per-view tv options, internet, etc. Some rooms have a sofa bed and work desk, and this is one of the few hotels which still offers smoking rooms. Upper floors are accessed by keycard in the lift, so the hotel feels secure at night.
The reception area has seating and a water feature (!) which makes it a handy place to meet friends/ colleagues before heading out. The staff both at check-in and check-out were friendly and efficient. Not sure if it's because I'm a Priority Club member or not, but on check-in I was given a free bottle of mineral water and a chocolate bar - not had that on previous stays here...
Very close to Watford Junction station, with London only 20 minutes away. Luton airport about half hour by taxi.

Friendly staff, clean facilities. Biggest issue is car parking. I would guess 20 spaces which fill-up very quickly. You can park on the road between 6:30pm - 8am but beware of clamping out of these times. Your 2 min walk from Watford Junction station, which we used to go into London. Paid £31 for return off-peak which included rover underground go anywhere ticket for family of 4, you do not need to buy peak ticket (£68) if you don't go into Euston. We took the London Midland train to Wembley Central and then got onto the undergound in pesk times and returned in peak times.
Also very useful if your going to Warner Bro's Harry Potter studio only 10 mins away, quite a few other people did the same when we were there.

Room Tip: Your next to Watford Junction railway station which is busy and the train can fly through the statio...
