I decided to go for a weekend break to Walsall - might seem a bit of strange choice, but I new nothing about it, wanted to see the New Art Gallery and didn't want to drive miles - I enjoy looking round English towns and cities and wanted to do some shopping in a place with a reasonable amount of chain stores.

Found the Lyndon House Hotel by chance but glad I did - thought I might be struggling for overnight accommodation, but got a friendly reception, was amazed at only having to pay £35 for a Saturday night single occupancy of a double room. The rooms and bathrooms are probably in need of an upgrade and won't suit those who expect to find beds decorated with showers of pretty throw cushions and the most up-to-date bathroom fit-outs, but they were clean and presentable. Breakfast wasn't gourmet, but service was good.

Like most cheaper accommodation, breakfast quality could be vastly enhanced by small improvements - a slightly less cheap sausage (they're one of my bugbears and immediately give away the quality of a full english) and jams not in plastic sachet/pots with peel back lids - give a choice of one jam and one marmalade but put them in a small dish out of a jar of ok quality - nobody enjoys the industrial coloured and flavoured clear fruitless jelly that you get in the individual portion things.

Apart from that, would happily recommend this to any other traveller.

Very small room taken up by 4 poster bed, small bathroom. Staff very good, co-joined with lively pub. Lots of people eating is always a good sign. Good breakfast too. Car park can only hold about 8 cars total, public carpark adjacent free overnight but traffic warden arrives 7.30 so move car before then.

I was working whilst staying here for about 2 months. I found there to be a great atmosphere in the pub every night with very friendly bar staff and kitchen staff both in the evening and the morning. There were a few of us staying here and we would stay in most nights and eat and relax in the hotel rather than walk out. The only negative would be in some rooms you can hear people talking in the bar until late.

My husband & I stayed at this hotel recently in a deluxe room for an event held there. The room was small with lots of dark, dusty wood that looked as if it hadn't been dusted/poished in a long while. The bathroom was sufficient with both shower & bath facilties & nice & warm, however again not been cleaned properly. There was an iron & hairdryer but no mirror near the stuck in the wardrobe hairdryer. The lead would not stretch to the bathroom where there were mirrors which were fixed to the walls. We were not informed about the "complimentary early evening drink of your choice served in our main bar" that we were apparently entitled to. The breakfast was awful. One person, who was nice but stressed, appeared to be the only one doing the serving/cooking/replacements. There were not enough tables so we had to wait & then wait again for it to be cleared. There were only 2 sausages left & 3 bacon & we had to wait for eggs & toast. The meats had gone cold by the time the toast arrived. The final straw was the curdled milk. The lady did apologise & replace it.
Havingsaid all this, the hotel staff seemed nice & the Event was top class!!

Room Tip: Ladies, take a mirror!! Also, if you are staying on a saturday then make sure you get your complimen...

Certainly this place could not be described as characterless or sterile. However it wasn't personally to my taste. I stayed in a 'superior' room, very Tudor, very small windows, at the top of an outside staircase... I'd have preferred something a bit more practical. But some people will like it.

I missed breakfast in the morning but I did find an excellent Wetherspoons that did Eggs Benedict and coffee for something like £3.00 round the corner.

The rates published on the leaflets in the hotel's foyer were cheaper than those on booking.com!

I have simply got to post this photo I took of the hotel brochure, as it made me laugh...

My wife and I recently stopped overnight at the Lyndon Hotel. I have over the years and across the world often had to use one of the Hotel Chains, Yes they are good and yes all very modern BUT all characterless and sterile, only the sort of plac eyou hav eto use not chose to use. The Lyndon, from the moment we booked in struch us as different, yes it has minor faults, all hotels do, the difference is the attitude of all we met from the Receptionist to the lovely lady who served us breakfast,a real gem, nothing was too much trouble.Astounding that such service at such a reasonble rate. It made our night.
Please do not change and ignore the nockers.
