We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express as a stop over between travelling to the West Midalnds and home. Firts impressions of the hotel were good, modern, clean and well lit.

Our problem began with the check-in the process it self was very straight forward, my main gripe was with the receptionist who did NOT provide a warm welcome, did not advise the basic things such as where our rooms where located, breakfast times and check out times. Which is poor service if you are not a regular to this particular hotel.

The rooms were lovely, basic but had the neccessary amenaties: nice comfortable double bed, TV, clean towels and a very clean modern bathroom. The room was very spacious, tea and coffee facilities provided in the room.

The hotel bar doubles as a reception area, which is fine plenty of seats (especially for a weekend). The main problem in the bar was the slow service...the reception staff doubled up as bar staff so you could be waiting a while. Also the lack of draught drinks was a dissapointment, they did not have Strongbow on draught so if you wanted to have a pint of Cider you need to purchase 2 bottles (inevitably costing more).

There is a lovely pub just 5minutes walk down the road (past KFC) which serves cheap drinks.

Breaakfast was appalling, there were very few clean tables and the lack of choice on the buffet was dreadful. I understand that for a budget hotel you dont expect a full English & continental buffet but there was only a few pastries, basic cerelas and sausages and scrambled eggs (which left a lot to be desired). There were also a few other items but again a very poor selection.

I would possoibly look to stay at the hotel again if travelling to the West Midlands, however this would not be my first chioice.

Stayed here after a NYE party - hotel is really easy to find, right next to J10 M6. Price is also excellent compared to the nearby Village. One word of warning - £3.50 for a bottle of water in reception starts taking the savings back!!

This hotel must have been built recently and is clean and comfortable. I think that it represents good value when compared to other hotels in this class (e.g Premier Inn and Travelodge). The restaurant is poor, but the Village hotel opposite is great for food and recommended. Breakfast was more Continental style than traditional English, the only hot option was scrambled egg and sausage (weird combination). Staff were okay and reasonably helpful, however a morning paper is not possible. Bar stays open late. The rooms were fresh and clean, comfortable bed and a choice of hard or soft pillows. Desk and sofa, reasonable choice of TV channels. Although close to M6, I had a good nights sleep as the windows don't let too much noise through. Plenty of parking. I would prefer to stay in the Village hotel opposite as they have good food and a pool, however this is an acceptable alternative and I'll be back. A much better option than the nearby Park Inn I stayed in last week. Overall 8/10.

Fine rooms in the hotel, exactly what you pay for. The rooms are well appointed very clean and tidy, and well sized.
However, steer clear of the restaurant.
Firstly: the restaurant staff are shared with the front desk, so if you have the cheeck to try and order around dinner time, they will be busy clearing a backlog of frustrated people trying to check in. After half an hour or so, they will get around to taking your order. Food will then take another hour to appear. However the burger I had was terrible. The bun was cold and stale, and pattie was clearly cooked from frozen, and the lettuce was brown. When I asked for some sauce i was pointed in the direction of a basket of sachets - could even have brought a bottle. Not a good choice. To be avoided. All is not lost however, the hotel across the carpark - the village - has a fantastic restaurant, full of people and fresh food coming out in fast order.

this hotel is better than every other hotel ive stayed in in this class and is also better than most other bigger hotels too
What makes it is the good location, very comfortable rooms and bar but mainly the staff who all went out of thier way to help... Helped us order takeway, set up plates etc for us to eat our take away in the bar, helped print of vouchers for atractions
f would definately stay there again. I hope the management team at HI express realise how much better this is than all the other holiday inns i have stayed in and it is entirely down to thier staff working in Walsall.
