“Excellent Value”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

From the outside the hotel is very nondescript. You can quite easily drive past without knowing its there. Inside its looks modern and very clean. The check in was quick and easy. The room was clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable. Initially the room was too warm for our comfort but we just adjusted the heat from the radiator and it was fine. The only real issue i had with the room was with an air-vent in the wall. It allowed a lot of noise into the room from the road below. I don't know if every room has an air-vent, next time we book we will ask for a room not facing the road.Breakfast was good, everything was self service including Tea & coffee. The hotel is close to the centre of town and UCAS.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is not facing the road.

We have just returned from a weekend at this hotel. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. The condition of the room we stayed in was excellent - plenty of mirrors, a good sized bath and excellent shower, plenty of hanging space, a drawer (other hotels please note - a drawer is needed for underwear etc., you can't hang it up!) and space for your suitcase. The bed was very comfortable and we had 2 good nights sleeps. It was so quite, we began to think we were the only guests, but the numbers we saw at breakfast quashed that theory. Well done Legacy - you obviously listen to guests!

My wife and I stayed here for one night as a birthday treat, using a Groupon voucher. For £89 we got a double room for the night, breakfast, a glass of sparkling wine and canapés on arrival, afternoon tea, and a 3-course dinner with a bottle of wine and a liqueur coffee to follow. In terms of value for money I couldn't possibly fault it!

We retired to bed groaning a little under the unaccustomed excess!

The hotel has its pluses and minuses like any other. Its location is right opposite the university campus, so handy for parents dropping off or visiting students. It needs careful planning to find it, however, as it is just off the ring road and a little way outside the Town Centre. We didn't find it noisy.

The car park is too small for the number of rooms in the hotel - 40 places for 75 rooms - so could present problems at busy times, I expect. We had no problem when we stayed.

The combination lobby, lounge, bar, reception and dining area was clean, modern, comfortable, light and airy. The area was by no means luxurious, but pleasant and perfectly adequate. The reception staff were obliging and helpful.

Yes, the breakfast room was in the basement, but I have found this to be quite common when travelling abroad. It was a perfectly cheerful room with lots of space and a good breakfast buffet. It exceeded many breakfasts I've eaten in higher-status chain hotels.

Our room was of a decent size, clean and comfortable. An extra towel was found in the wardrobe: why wasn't it in the bathroom of a double room, I wonder? The double bed (oh joy!) had 4 pillows! I hate hotel double beds with 3 pillows. The bathroom was good, except for the 'shower over bath' provision. I found the bath side a bit high for an old crock to climb over. I would have felt better with a well-placed grab handle provided. Younger guests would not even think about this point, I suppose.

Overall I have positive feelings about the hotel. Areas for improvement? A couple of items of our dinner were a little greasy, e.g. the butterfly prawns, and could have been better drained. The waitress unceremoniously plonked our unopened bottle of wine on the table and wandered off without a word. I didn't expect a 'fine dining' experience, but that was below par. A half day training course would be a good investment to help what I believe was probably a receptionist doubling up on roles. The young lady behind the bar (a corner of the reception desk) seemed similarly out of her comfort zone. I did approve of the 3-for-a-fiver introductory deal on the new San Miguel Fresca, though!

The Legacy Hotel, Preston is a 3 Star hotel, not a 4 Star. Bearing this in mind, and the availability of special deals too, I'd have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. This is the year of a Preston Guild, so think about a visit!

Room Tip: Perhaps you'd prefer a room facing away from the Ring Road.

Finding the hotel is not the easiest of tasks, it is on a one way street, off the one way system circling the city centre and the sat nav took me into the street just above the hotel, so had to go all the way round again and try and get into Marsh Lane lower down. Once in the right end of Marsh Lane, the signeage for the hotel is not great, we saw it just as we were passing, and managed to turn into it just before having to encounter the whole of the one way system again!! Other people I spoke to also made similar comments, and I notice that it has been mentioned on tripadvisor too, so I feel the hotel company really should take note of this and act upon it.
That said, it really is the only negative point, the hotel is very well appointed, very clean and comfortabl, the Staff were very pleasant and the buffet breakfast was the best I have ever had anywhere in a hotel, with a wide choice. All this for £70.00 for the two of us. Far better value than Premier Inn!!! It is less than 5 minutes walk into the city centre, so is well located and we heard no noise outside at all.
I would have no compunction in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Preston, whether it be for business or leisure.

Stayed on a Groupon offer, location really goog. in the Centre and UCLAN campus is literally across the road. On arrival the Reception staff were very polite and informative.
The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Included in the deal was Cream Tea and a 3 course meal which was nice. Although we gad a room on the road side we still managed to get a good night sleep. Would go back again.

Stayed here one night when going to a function at Guild Hall. Amazing value for the price.Cost less than a travel lodge but much better. Bedroom and bathroom better appointed, got breakfast included and staff very helpful. Close to railway so had to keep window closed but I knew it was city centre

Room Tip: Suspect higher floors and front rooms are quietest

This hiotel is spotless and very central to Preston. The Fusion Room restaurant is 5 minute walk away and is well worth a visit. The rooms are large with tea & coffee, ironing board etc, large comfy bed and in a quiet location depite being in the city centre. The price was very reasonable and included breakfast which was very good with a large choice. Will definitely stay here again.
