Preston Marriott Hotel
Ranked #6 of 15 Hotels in Preston
Reviewed 14 July 2008

The Marriott Preston is located in an extensively enlarged country house on the edge of the city. It is in a great position on the motorway network for travel towards Blackpool or north towards the Lake District. However, its semi-rural position means that you do need a car to get anywhere.

My ground floor room was quite small but it had everything that could be needed - comfy bed, iron, coffee/tea, good tv, safe, full toiletries and tissues in the bathroom, etc.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was okay and there is a separate bar that serves food too, plus room service. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range.

Given its pleasant setting and road-friendly location, the hotel is popular for wedding parties at the weekend and as a stopover for coach tours. As a result, I found that it could become crowded at times, particularly in the bar/restaurant. Breakfast was the worst casualty of this and, on one of my four days, there was a long queue, stressed staff and slow replenishment of food. Its inevitable that such groups all descend on the breakfast room at the same time, so the hotel should perhaps think how their catering needs could be more adequately met.

Spent just one night in this hotel and will not be going back there in a hurry.
We paid for an upgraded room and were very surprised to see how small it was. I would hate to think how small the standard ones are. If I say you could not swing a cat I am not exagerating.
Breakfast in the morning is ok but check out the windowsills (they are filthy and covered in flies )
The pool is ok but if there are more than two people in the pool you have had it. One woman was hit in the leg by the man in the next lane to her or should I say he was in her lane as I too was in the pool taking the numbers up to three. On a positive note the steam room is lovely with mood lighting and menthol.
All in all I would definately not advise a stay here unless desperate.

The stayed here for 1 night while attending a friends daughters 18th party in Preston - and the place was so relaxing! The spa and pool area is fab! the staff are so helpful and friendly. What more do you need - oh yes the food (breakfast) was also superb.

The room was very clean and spacious with full bathroom, iron and board, tv and the usual.

I am going back with my mum in November when we see a show in Blackpool.

Just returned from a stay at the Marriott, we were very impressed. The room was clean and tidy, the breakfast was fantastic, plenty to choose from. Staff were very polite and helpfull. Swimming pool/sauna/steam room/jacuzzi fab, would return to the Marriott again. Plenty of places to park outside the hotel, places to eat at the hotel, but also loads of resturaunts nearby.

Have just returned from a fantastic 2 night stay at the Marriott in Preston. We booked the room via the hotel's web-site and were amazed at the low price we paid.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday evening and requested a quiet room away from the function rooms as there was a wedding party taking place. This was no trouble for the reception staff as we were quickly assigned a room towards the rear of the hotel in the newer block. The room was great - it was both extremely spacious and very clean.

The indoor pool area was great. The swimming pool was a good size and there were also 2 jacuzzis, a steam room and a sauna.

Waking up hungry, It was a relief to see that there was a huge selection of food available at the buffet breakfast. The cooked breakfast was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of alternatives on offer too (cakes, cheese, yoghurts, fruit etc.).

Overall. one of the best hotels we have stayed in in England and certaily worthy of its 4* rating.

We booked the Marriott Preston for a birthday long weekend. We checked in at 3 and headed straight for the leasure centre where the staff were friendly, there is a good size pool , 2 hot tubs, sauna and steam room all which are clean and well presented. The leisure centre also has a poolside bar , hairdressers and spa.

Our room was in the old part of the hotel and appeared recently reburbished with immaculate decor and bedding, the room was quiet and restful.

Breakfast was up to the usual Marriott standard and the only negative being that someone saw fit to arrange the tables in a long 'works canteen' formation so that paying guests had to be squashed in with some conference delegates ( not appreciated when youve paid £££'s for a special stay).

We are not fans of the Marriott evening menu's (expensive and old fashioned) so chose to eat out, this uneathed a real star in the Gate of Bengal, a really good quality Indian restaurant just up the road.

A special mention is deserved for Alex, the Marriott Concierge who really does go that extra mile for the guests with a lovely manner.
To sum up this is a quality hotel with a nice ambience for de-stressing.

Stayed at this hotel midweek for 5 nights on a business trip. The hotel is a 20 minute taxi ride from the station in the Broughton area of Preston, and whilst this is a long way from the station it was extremely convenient for us as it was minutes from where we had business.

I arrived Sunday night and was given a room in the original block close to reception, whilst colleagues were in the newer block. The room was small, double bed, and had what one would expect from a modern hotel.

Ate a couple of times at the hotel and the first time the room service took so long they offered me a free platter of fruit. The food was boring, bland and very expensive for what you got and it is just as well that Preston, surprisingly had an array of good restaraunts.

Whilst I had no problems in my room, my colleagues had daily problems with room keys that didn't work and water that was mostly cold. They would definetly not stay there again. The Wi Fi was also pricey as was the internet connection. Overall I expected more from a Marriott.
