Tangs has to be one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the UK...the food is excellent. Service is superb. Price is right.

My daughter is at university in Preston and we visited early last year. This year we were looking at other universities for my second daughter...both times we ate at Tangs.

Food is fresh...a huge choice and unlike many Chinese restaurants they do not rely on too much flavoring allowing the herbs and spices to enhance flavours not over power.

Understandably some items are probably kept frozen such as soft shelled crabs and the like. However the flavours was not a dtraction...I would say items are not kept long.

If Tangs were on The Kings Road in Chelsea it would be an exclusive eating house...the surroundings are minimal and not detracting the food does all the talking.

I love this place , yo sushi in Manchester is trash now it's outta Selfridges! And other Chinese in Preston seam dated! This place is simple , clean, pure honest oriental food! It's always a treat esp. the oriental Marky Mark looking waiter and the extensive menu! They deliver to bonus! Enjoy! Xx

The only Chinese eateries we had tried in Preston were the buffet types until we were told about Tang's. It is in a converted pub in a post-industrial area, rather quiet on a Sunday evening. Inside though, there was a warm welcome and we were pleased to notice a group of young Chinese diners.
The surroundings were a little spare; perhaps a bit too minimalist, but comfortable enough. I did find the large screen TV on the wall, with a continuous loop of photos of all the dishes, somewhat annoying as it was in my eyeline.
When the food arrived, though, no photos could do justice to the marvelous tastes and textures. We have lived in Hong Kong, and this was among the best Chinese food we have had in England - even counting London's Chinatown. The char sui pork was finely sliced, not fatty and in a delicious sauce, the fish in Cantonese sauce and vegetable spring rolls very good, but the outstanding dish was salt and pepper aubergine. How can aubergine be made so succulent?
The prices may be higher than other Preston establishments, but the portions were very generous, necessitating a 'doggy bag', so we could enjoy that pork the following day. As we only drink Jasmine tea with Chinese cuisine, this kept the bill down to what we thought a reasonable sum for the quality and quantity.
It appears that there are two menus, and we only saw the one intended for the Brits, so we will be returning to try some more of this authentic food.

After being recommended by a friend we went to try out this restaurant. We were very disappointed. The food was very greasy. We'll just stick to chop Sui house in the future.

Dear Samantha J,

Thank you for coming to try our restaurant. I am sorry you did not enjoy our dishes.

I understand that we cannot satisfy every tastes, and if you are used to the dishes from "Chop Sui House", you have a preferred taste.

Despite not being situated in a particularly glamorous area, once inside it was a fairly enjoyable experience. The staff were all very friendly and attentive as well as helpful in describing dishes. They spoke very good English & of course Chinese & looked after all the guests very well. Food arrived in good time & the spicy dishes lived up to their name. Was given a complimentary vegetable side dish & eventually left happy & full.
