“Great to see the Ribchester helmet back home for a change.”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Went to see the original Ribchester helmet, back on loan from the British Museum. Great to see treasures returning to their point of origin- more please British Museum. This is an excellent small museum, well arranged, and with impressive local finds. My wife (not usually a museum fan) was very impressed by the displays. As she says, just enough text, and context, to explain the finds, and well grouped around the fort, and the vicus. Some grandparents had brought their young grandson to see the helmet, and his enthusiasm for the museum was great to see

“Well-presented museum in pretty village”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

A small museum with interesting artefacts. Well presented. Very good information, especially on the history of excavation here. A real bonus that the Ribchester helmet is on display at the moment, with great information to accompany it. Only a short walk to the remains of the Roman site which, although not extensive, are interesting to see and well explained - mainly the granaries next to the church (which is worth a look inside) and the baths. Ribchester itself is very pretty and in a beautiful location beside the river. Ample parking in a large car park sign-posted on the way in, with loos and a tea room nearby (superb locally-made ice-cream!). The museum is only a short walk from the car park and it looked as if there was also limited parking available right outside.

“Well-presented and interesting exhibition”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

Ribchester is a small museum, but extremely well-presented. The displays and information relate not only to the Roman occupation but also to the tribes of Britain in pre-Roman times. It is well worth spending time reading all the captions and posters. Watch out for the Roman soldier - he's disturbingly realistic!

“Fascinating little gem”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We heard about the Roman remains at Ribchester, and as we were staying in the vicinity decided to pay a visit. The museum has recently been revamped and is very well laid out with all of the details of the history of Ribchester and the various occupying forces. The jewel in the crown of the museum is the original Ribchester Helmet which has just been returned there from display at the British Museum. It is a ceremonial full head and face helmet worn by one of the occupying Roman dignitaries some 2000 years ago. It is beautifully decorated with roman figures, and although somewhat worse for wear in parts, it is a wonderful artifact none the less.
Besides the helmet there are many other artifacts and displays showing how the Romans lived. A very interesting and informative little museum, and well worth a visit

“Everything Roman”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Small Museum £3 entrance fee for adults, The Museum is very well laid out plenty of information boards and a few exhibits about 20- 30 minutes to go round but worth looking at.
The Museum faces the River Ribble where you will find benches and grass to picnic on.
