Holiday Inn Lancaster

The hotel is situated immediately off Junction 34 of the M6 about 2 miles or so from central Lancaster. It has a large car park so no problems with parking. We received a friendly, smiling welcome at Reception, where the check-in was speedy and efficient (take a bow, Emily). We had an Executive Room, which was of a decent size with large flat screen tv (films and information also available on the tv), trouser press, fridge with complementary bottled water and Mars Bars, tea and coffee making facilities. We found the beds quite comfortable with a choice of 5 different pillow types. The en-suite bathroom had bath with a powerful shower attachment, wc and wash basin, with toiletries provided. If you have forgotten any toiletries, the hotel will provide themThe towels were really thick and fluffy - excellent! There is a bar/lounge and a restaurant. Although these areas have a few steps to negotiate, there are lifts for those who need it. Food and drink prices were what you would expect for this type of hotel. Although we did not have evening dinner in the hotel (we were out and about visiting friends), the breakfasts were excellent from continental through to "full English". Special mention here of the Cumberland sausage - my favourite and totally delicious! The waiting staff, who were all very pleasant, showed you to your table and provided the tea and coffee -then it was a self service buffet. There is a small computer area and Wi-fi is also available. Apart from a slight misunderstanding one day about when the bedroom could be cleaned, everything was first class. The staff, in reception, bar and restaurant, were all friendly and helpful and the whole hotel was spotlessly clean. Being somewhat out of town, there was little else in the immediate area but, if you fancied a change, there was a Brewer's Fayre restaurant just over the road. Our reason for choosing this hotel was the proximity to friends we wished to visit and we would more than happily stay at this hotel again in the future.

The rooms are standard Holiday inn (uk) rooms , they are clean tidy and basic with a not very comfortable bed. The Restaurent is fine and as it is a bit out of the town worth using lots of local specials. Staff were all helpful and friendly.
Very near the motorway so a good place to break your journey.

We had an overnight stay on the 18th August. Ahead of a day trip to Morecambe. Myself, my friend and my 2 sons. A good location as just off the motorway, and close enough to walk into Lancaster along the cycle path. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we loved the pool and spa facilities. The children loved being able to go into the Jacuzzi and sauna, as they are not usually allowed to use these due to their age. There was also a safe play area which the children enjoyed. We had the 3 course evening meal, the adult meals were well presented and delicious, but not as much care was taken with the children's food, as my son's pizza was burnt, and served with a lettuce stack! The breakfast offered plenty of choice, the children particularly loved the pancake making machine. Would advise caution if connecting to the Wi fi as we inadvertently Connected to a higher speed broadband which incurred a charge, but this was refunded without any quibble. We would happily stay here again.

We arrived at 12.30pm to be told " you can't check in it's too early, there are no rooms ready as we were full last night". I said I know the procedure but can we leave our luggage? The boy took our luggage but I had to ask for a receipt. Not a good welcome or first impression. Housekeeping was hit and miss. Only 2 towels between 4 of us. One day the bathroom bin was not emptied, no bath mat or extra toilet roll given but worse is that our bed linen was not changed in the 4 nights we stayed. Beds not made nicely, pillows and sleepwear just dumped. Breakfast service was good and our dinner on the Thursday night was good. Overall good location for the Lakes but housekeeping needs improving.

Dear Sue3012

To allow our housekeepers time to turn round the rooms, we do offer check in from 2pm. Although the receptionist was therefore correct in what he told you, I will speak to him so he knows that he could have handled the situation better. Thank you for highlighting this.

I am very sorry to read your comments about housekeeping being 'hit and miss' and I would like to express my sincerest apologies for the dissatisfaction you experienced. Again, please be assured I shall be speaking to the team about your comments.

On a more positive note, I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay and that you particularly liked your breakfast and dinner at the hotel.

A convenient place for our purposes -a funeral in a nearby village. Alittle far from Lancaster itselfso not the best place if that is your aim.Had no opportunity to use pool etc. Service fine. I asked for a particular juice not available at breakfast and was given it at no extra cost. All staff very friendly and helpful.

Friendly and helpful staff. Decent food at a reasonable price. We used this hotel as a less expensive alternative to Lake District hotels, and being almost on the M6 (which could not be heard from our room),we were only a short distance away.

Reservations: could not reserve online with pet. 2 calls - still reservation wrong upon arrival; no pet & no double bed.
Reception: could not be bothered with wrong reservation.
Room: hallway carpet worn and dirty; room clean with advertised amenities; wifi would not load a web page - too slow, too weak of a signal; advise putting a warning on shower because the pressure and temperature are so low, you can not expect a sudden burst of heated water when others turn their shower off.
Dinning: bring your own knife if you plan to have meat; tough and dry; potatoes are saturated with fat; cheap wine served at Ritz prices; service good, however, very much like reception, couldn't be bothered if the food was no good - their job is to serve it.
Breakfast same standard fare, coffee Luke warm and bitter.
Would not recommend this hotel as the place to stay, or do business.
